Send and Return... but what kind of cables do I use.

Hi... my name is Niels and I'm from the Netherlands. I came accross this forum, cause I'm stuck within my own studio and I was hoping someone here could help me. I'm just building up a 19" inch rack with equipment. I've recently bought 2 Behringer V-Amp pro rack's, one for bass and one for guitar.

According to the manual's application setup schematic, I should go for a PRE DSP INSERT connection between the V-AMP and my Audio interface/Computer/Mixer using the send and return. When I look at the backside of my V-AMP I see only one Jack socket for Send and one for Return. Now I would like to make full advantage of the stereo effects of these racks when I record my parts... but what is puzzling me is what kind of cable I should use for this setup.

Can someone please help me with this, how I should connect my rack to my recording equipment?

Thank you very much in advance.

Send/Return lines are ways to patch out board gear into a signal path and combine it with the devices signal

pre DSP send should be self explanatory . . . The signal being sent to an out board processor is 'dry' tapped prior to any of the V-Amp's on board processing

In your particular case you don't need a 'return' line, just the send So? you just run a phone (1/4") cable from V-amp Send to the audio cards input. This allows you to record a signal without any of the V-Amps FX. If you want those FX on the recording you can send a stereo signal from the XLR mains (L and/or R) to the audio card. If the audio card has digital in you can do the transfer via the V-amps digital outs.

The 'send' jack on the V-amp works the same as a 'thru' jack on a stomp box, by passing the boxes FX

Ooops. This is what you want. I just read the send/return - what cable part. For that, you use an insert cable. But to get the stereo effected guitar out, follow the above instructions.

Thank you all for the advise. I was kinda confused by the examples in the manual, that showed a single Jack plug cable leaving the send output of the effects rack, suddenly going into a double jack connection to an imput of a device.

This made me wonder. according to the drawing in the manual it looked like a cable with on one end a 1/4 Jack stereo plug and on the other end 2 1/4 mono jacks.

Does that mean then that that one send output is a stereo out?

Haven't seen the unit but... if it is stated that it's a stereo out and there is just one output then, the connection and cable needed would be a T/R/S.
