I thought it sounded great from the start, but who am I? I gotta say though that my (crappy) solo still starts a little early. It kinda gives the impression that it's sped up. Maybe push it out a little more.

Will do, Dave...;)

....and I love the solo.

Holy crap, you definetly channeled the spirit of Dio on this...love Dio era Sabbath /Heaven and Hell ...vocals are awesome!!! Listening at work so can't crank it the way it needs :D...but mix sounds real good...really dig the guitar solo....fits well imo....great playing! Good job guys...this rocks!

Thanx Queep!
....I try to learn from the best!;):)

Listening as I type....I definitely think it's better. Something still seems disjointed with the drums for me. They seem too isolated. Can you adjust overhead presence or bleed? They just need more "glue" to make them seem more like a kit and less like individual drums banging all over the place. The snare could be louder too. The leads seems to fit much better. It sounds like they're part of the song now instead of sitting on top of the song. Vocals and guitars sound great. Good improvements.

Nice!

I'll let others nit the mix ...... I like the tunage ...... waiting for SirN's lead ..... ah ..... there .... well, that's some fine wankery but I kinda agree with the gerg, it sounds like a lead that was just stuck on top of a mix. Timing wise it doesn't really fit too well. But it's still nice lead work anyway.

I like the shit out of the whole thing.

Thanx, Greg with the golden ears....:D
I'll take care of that!

Thank you, Lieutenat, sir!
I'll check the position of that solo again. ;)

Sounds better. That vague sense of not quite up to snuffness is greatly diminished.

The hi-hat still doesn't really sound like a proper part of the kit, but it doesn't stick out as much.

Ahhhhhh....You bought that outro lead guitar a nice pair of dentures, now it can bite right through the mix! Shaweet!! :D

I put it through the monitors this time to have a proper romp through the metal playground. Everything sounds pretty good, nothing bothered my ears really. Nice improvements. :)

For the next metal masterpiece, just give me a little indication that the solo is about to come to an end. It was kinda like someone hit that poor dude in the back of the head before he could finish getting his rocks off - smack, bam, :eek:vocals again

Rock on!

Yeah, Dave said if I do that again, he'll kick my ass....:D
Thanx for listening. bud!:)

The trials and tribulations of unreal drums, Steve....:D

Hi Joey,

Great job on this, it's definitely channeling some Dio flavor, and that's a cool thing. Really good vocals and harmonies, you've got that style nailed down for sure. I liked the solo, and I apologize if this has already been said (I looked through the previous posts, but may have missed it) but to me, if there is any problem with the solo, it's less a problem with the tone and more a problem of fighting with the drums/rhythm underneath. They sound too busy to me in that section, and I think it's making the timing feel a little too herky jerky (technical term) :) If it were me, I'd either let the drums take the spotlight, or put the guitar on center stage, but definitely not both.

Just my $.02

Overall, very nice! Oh, and by the way, I absolutely love the intro to the guitar solo where the drums are hitting stops and the guitar is doing that descending run. That rocks.

Best Regards,

Dave DeWhitt

Haven't read any of the comments yet, so this review is of the "updated" mix - purely objective. Sorry it took me so long to get to finally listening to this. I love your stuff, Joey.

First thing I notice is... Your vocals are primo, dude. I mean seriously - this is sick. Lots of power, lots of grit, lots of soul. I can feel it. Kudos, bro.

Where the vocals are so powerful, I hate to say it, but the drums lack about the same power. I can tell that the rhythm *wants* to be powerful, but the execution / sound of the drums sounds weak. I can't quite put my finger on why, because the actual rhythm should be powerful. The sounds produced by the drums, though, for some reason seems to suck the energy out of the beat.

During the bridge, the tom roll beat gets up in power, but still doesn't quite make it to the vocal power level though.

During the end "false paradise" section, beginning the ending sequence, I can hear some serious sweetness by doubling, tripling, or even quadrupling up the vocals and echoing them out. (I hope that is intelligible. If not, let me know and I'll explain more)

Anyway... Guitars and everything else are way above par, bordering on pro-production levels, as far as my ears can tell.

Great job! When can we expect the album? (I'll go read the comments now)

*edit: After reading the comments, I totally agree that the drums lack "glue". I think the lack of power I was talking about comes from the drums sounding like individual drums - instead of a "kit" being played.

Yeah, I guess the overall consensus has been that the drums seem to lack something. Funnily enough, Steven Slate drums sound incredibly real on their own, but this wasn't such a problem when I was using Battery. I've got a different reverb on the snare than on the rest of the kit too, so that might be the problem. I'll have to look into it. I guess I just have to find the right samples. The album is getting closer, just one more song and the tracks can be mastered.
Thanx for the comments, Jason! :)

Thanks Joey and everyone. Working with Joe is a real pleasure.

Is the song still up? Not getting any response from that site....
