hi guys , well im gafadi

First of all , glad i'm here, surfed thru many threads and many useful threads.

I am trying to record some rap music of my own , i've been using reason 4 and M audio oxygen 49 to produce some beats. Im trying to do nothing fancy, its setup at my own room. Will do a better setup when i move out from my parents place.

So i picked a mic and couple of other stuff.

a pop filter

They seem to fit under my budget and looks pretty good .

But the thing is , the mic isnt a usb so i guess you need some kind of converter.

iam looking to buy this :

So will this work fine for me ? like i said , im not looking for nothing fancy at all.

No, it won't work.

Have a look in your MXL mic link... see where it says "requires phantom power"? Now have a look at your USB converter link... see anywhere were it says "provides phantom power"?

I'm assuming it doesn't and would only work on a dynamic microphone - maybe. There's probably no preamplification involved either which might help yer condenser to function...

The prevailing opinon here would be to get a USB interface that acts as a converter / preamp / interface - something like this:

:)

In that case, yes - your mic needs phantom power to operate.

It also needs a preamp, and I note that your little device has a "studio quality preamp" built into it as well..

So it will work in the sense that you'll get a signal to your software.

Studio quality for $39.95 - who'd a thunk it!:D

See you in a couple of weeks when you're back with your next thread "My vocals sound like ass, how do I fix them?"

Don't forget to list your equipment...

Well like i said , i am not a pro or not even a beginner , im a noob . I've seen people record their songs and rap from their ipod/iphone or crappier stuff . I am not looking at a "studio" like audio yet. I want to try first, see if i can actually sing or not . Also i believe i got a accent in my voice, i want to sing and try to clear it out. For such purpose it seems fine to me. I am looking to use this at my apartment , when i start to make beats at higher level skills . I'll rent a room at basement of one dude i know. By then ill have budget of 4-5 k to spent and make a good studio like environment.

But its just funny , when i read such comments like "Studio quality for $39.95 - who'd a thunk it!" and more

and in the forums it says "Just starting? Afraid to ask a stupid question? Don't worry, in here nobody will laugh at you."

:spank:

I don't know, that converter looks kinda sketchy to me. To be truthful, you'd be much better off getting the interface that armistice suggested! I know you're just starting out, but you'd be better off saving up the extra $80 and then buying the m audio...

Did you say it was "studio quality?"

No - the ad for the product did. So I'm commenting on the ad for the product, not having a swing at you...

Buy it, whatever...

Just bear in mind it's very cheap and there will be a reason for that, most likely.

Good luck.

So, let me get this straight...

You're using an industry standard $400 soft synth program to record your beats, and then you go out and buy a $40 condenser? Does it not trouble you that you spent almost as much on the stand and pop filter as you did the mic?

Seriously, if you're going to go this route, just get an SM58, rap your nonsense though that DI, pay one of your buddies that works at a studio to mix it and run it through a finalizer. Done and done. You'll save yourself the money, headaches and time it would take to do it otherwise. And I can almost guarantee it will sound a lot better.

Sometimes rapping with a 58 will work as good as if you choose to use a $1000. microphone to record your vocals with ...but it will all depend on how your voice will be captured with the 58, just try it to see if it works for you.

Mouth breather, a word to the hopefully wise - if this is how you deal with someone that asks for assisstance, don't go into any profession where even a little tolerance, understanding, empathy, patience and a desire to see others flourish and succeed or steered along the right path if they're straying is even the most basic of requirements.

Your post is just dripping with sarcastic, condescending venom for no reason that I can fathom. I can understand that sometimes we go off topic and skirt sideways around a question or request. Your post doesn't even come close. The OP tells you he's a newbie and commits the capital offence of seeking advice. Was your reply in the form in which it came really necessary ?

You could have conveyed the essence of your post in a way that would actually have helped someone, which is essentially what a newbies forum is about.

He sounds like an alias but it's a hard one to call don't you think by the way he answers and has some knowledge?

Thanks for all the replies , well i ordered these items and i am not using $1000 microphone , im using a MXL 990 , a $50 mic.

I will be receiving these items probably by end of the week and like i mentioned before i am a total noob when it comes to recording or studio stuff.

I am familiar with computer stuff because i am a web designer , work with scripts, coding etc

But very new to the concept of studio , recording , ihave been messing around with Reason 4 and bought a M audio Oxygen 49 to produce some beats. Right now i am in phase of learning this recording , my room is by the streets so i guess buying a top notch product or expensive stuff isnt so good either. I will see if i can actually sing . If it works great, if i do make some great beats i'have already talked with people to rent a basement and setup a studio . Thats when ill buy expensive stuff.

This is what i bought as for now

A Oxygen 49 and Reason 4 for production of beats , soon will get a better Studio moniter, thinking about a Yahama one looks pretty good.

Im still learning , lets see how it goes

This was completely unnecessary. You should keep comments like that to yourself or to your dog. Either one.

You don't NEED expensive gear to make good recordings. That's been proven time and time again.

You're on the right track. And to answer your original question....yes, those things should work for you. Have fun and if you have any more questions feel free to ask. Maybe you'll get a little more help and less harassment.

HA HA HA HA I'll park it here for a while and keep posting....at least till festival season starts which is real soon then I'm back out of the studio and back out on the road for the summer.:)
