You can see 24-channel Trident 65 boards go for under $5k on eBay.

He's only asking that price because he spent a lot fixing it...but that doesn't always bring/guarantee a much higher price when it's sold.

How do they compare to the other Tridents Miroslav? Any idea?

I'm not a Trident expert...but the 65 would probably fall in the middle range of the Trident line, and is the smaller format in the line.
There are much better Trident models...and some not as good as the 65.
If you just Google it...you will find enough web pages with more detailed info.

I've been looking for a decent Trident, close to me, not needing a full overhaul/recap...and not crazy expensive.
so far I haven't found one with all those requirements....most times they are across country, and that always adds a lot to the price...but there were a couple I tried for, but didn't get them.

At this point it will take a really "perfect" deal for me to move on it...my TASCAM M3500 is serving me pretty good, and I would need a serious incentive to upgrade.

This one would look nice in my studio (of course, I would have to expand my studio! )...I'm just waiting for the BIN price to drop on it....................by about $70k!!!!

Nice consoles, no doubt, but in my case neither one would really improve the quality of my musical recordings, they'd just take up valuable space (and money!)

I only record one or two tracks at a time, coming from a preamp, a DI, a bump box or a line mixer, and I just mix the 8-track and maybe a couple of synth tracks.

These days I'm quite happy using my old Roland SMX-880 8x2 line mixers. I think you can pick those up on eBay for less than $100 a piece.

I actually almost did pick one of those up a little while back. I also have two nice tube preamps that I go direct to tape with. A UA 610 solo and a modified Concertone.

For tracking...a console may not be a necessity if you are going into a DAW and if you have enough DAW A/D inputs to cover your needs. Sometimes for recording a roomful of people, a console makes it easier, though if you have a bunch of outboard pres, you can still go direct to DAW,...but there's also the cue mix consideration. I find it easier to set up cue mixes and pre-mixes on-the-fly with a console. I can quickly set up EQ and processing that I don't later have to “undo” from my DAW tracks.
Likewise, when tracking to tape...a console is almost a necessity.

Then for mixdown, if you do it all ITB...no console needed. But if you mix OTB, like I do...that's really where a good console helps the most IMO.
The main things I would like to improve on with my current TASCAM 3500 would be a couple of more AUX sends (currently 6) and as many FX returns (currently 4) so I don't have to use any of my channels for FX returns...though that's not a big deal as my board can handle 48 inputs on mixdown (24 main and 24 tape). I would also like an EQ section with a little more precision and some of that sweet English EQ. Finally, just a little better S/N would help keep things even cleaner...and also 32 instead of 24 main channels would be nice.
Otherwise, I can get darn good sonic quality out of my TASCAM for what I'm doing. I've done many A/B checks...and the mix just always sounds bigger and more 3D coming through the console VS in the DAW.
