Replacing machine headz...

Im an ex-spurt
I gots me an EPI LP and the heads suck. I was pondering going with the Sperzel lockers but wanted to get some thoughts from youz guyz.

I like the Sperzels and have never had a problem with em slipping...(:laughings:)...but they're also somewhat of a pain in the ass to install.

What's a good machine head you would recommend?

You really can't get a better machinehead than Gotoh 510's. Use sperzels if you want. They wont get you any more for your money. Why do you want to change the old ones out?

They're slipping.

nah...they just feel cheap and sloppy. I think the ratio is like a 1:1. :p

Just lookin for a better tuner is all. Somethin tight and pretty.....

The 510's have an offset screw position don't they?

I still have some SG301's kicking about, I'm sure the screw hole on them lines up with the originals on Gibby's and Epi's

Seriously for smooth, gotoh beat all the others in opinion. You won't be disapoint.;)

If you want a match up with existing they also do really good dimensioned drawings in the hosco catalogue that I linked to yesterday in that other thread about gotoh stealth tuners. I wont fit anything else unless asked to. They have a fairly wide range available these days as well..
 
Do ya need to do extra drilling with the 510's then?
What about the quality of the 301's MunchDude? I'm good with spending a few extra bucks on good stuff.
Buy good buy once and all that. ;)

See above. There are a range available but yes generally they are the single offset style. Dimensions in the hosco catalogue.

Take a look at the existing ones and compare to the drawing in the catalogue I linked too.;) All Gotoh tuners are good, I prefer the 510's but the others are just dandy.

Yea the 301's are good, 18:1 ratio, I like em, used to use em when I was upgrading Vintage Les paul or SG copies.

Hey dood, dya want a Seymour Duncan JB for the bridge?

I used to like em but I use Classic 57's now or Burstbuckers, got one going spare I can't use, lotta guys like em in the LP's, yours if ya want it?

I've got another Epi LP that's got a broken neck that I've been cleaning up and gettin ready to fix back up. Between the 2 of em, I'm sure I could find a place for it.
