Ive heard countless times that your monitoring chain and your room are 2 of the most important aspects to having success recording (other than your knowledge). Where i'm stuck is with monitors. Im going to be purchasing some near-field active monitors but im lost picking them out. I was close to going with some KRK RP6's but got talked out of them by a GC salesman because he said they aren't all that true. He suggested instead some JBL's which i heard from someone at a different store were no good either. I imagine these guys are just pushing me different directions because in their own personal taste in monitors and how they sound to their individual ears. I know it comes down to me choosing ones that sound good to me, which i totally understand. However, if in the future i plan to upgrade them, is it a waste of money to learn on a 400 dollar pair, only to have to re-learn to listen and get used to something in a higher range. Doesn't it make more sense to get a somewhat nice pair (maybe some ADAM A7's) and not have to worry about it so much down the line? Or will the differences in A7's compared to say the RP6's or something similar not even be too noticeable?

I'm sorry this is so long, but i know how helpful you dudes are and that this is the right place to go for this sort of thing :D

You're never going to find anyone saying "you're investing too much in your monitoring" (okay, maybe there are a few freaks out there, but it'll be a rare day).

Get the best you can right off the bat. Everything else - EVERYTHING else - is a very, very distant second. Every single sonic decision you will make is based on your monitoring chain.

If I could only go back in time and make different monitor decisions...

well sharing your knowledge is the next best thing right?:)

any opinions on Tannoy Reveal 6's vs. ADAM A7's? experience with either?

No you are being pushed to what they have in stock, who they are the seller for and what the manager has told them to move on as soon as they can as they have too much stock.

Asking opinions of monitors is like asking what is your favourite colour, you will get different answers as it is largely a personal preference. Get out and listen to as many brands as you can in your price range and pick the one that sounds good to you. If we all liked the same monitors there would only be 1 brand.

Cheers
