Which humbucker?

If you had an Epiphone Standard and wanted to upgrade the bridge humbucker to a real Gibson one, which would you choose, a burstbucker, a 490T, a 57 classic?
 
Honestly I think Gibson pickups are overpriced and would go for a Seymour Duncan 59 or JB instead.

But I'd go burstbuckers if you don't mind paying. The gibson store in my town has a LP with a block cut out of the back so you can clip in different pickups and try them out, swapping them out almost instantly - maybe your local store has a similar setup? Only you can say what you like.
 
I agree with the SD option slowmotion mentioned.

I pulled the stock Epi pups from my Custom and installed SD '59's in both positions. Couldn't be happier with my choice.

I vote Burstbucker Pro, too. I have a set of Burstbucker Pro Alinco 5's (who gave them such a long name??) in my Epi 'Paul, and they are sweet. 'Course, they are pricy, new, but I got mine used and at a very sweet price.
 
We had a Dirty Fingers in my son's epi. He just picked up a SG Special last week, and I moved it over (I had *wired it wrong in the epi* - ah!) - I think it sounds really good. We got the Special used, and the previous owner had put a PAF (re-issue) in it - it was chrome and didn't match visually, but sounded pretty good. I'm moving that to a Les Paul Pee Wee that we use for a lap steel.

I've got 57 classics in my Supreme, and love them too. But I think the Dirty Fingers would sound good in your songs.

For my non-Gibson recommendation, check out the BBQ from Rio Grande pickups.

Seymour Duncan should be able to do that for you.

How much money are you looking to spend? Bareknuckles are expensive as shit in the states, but man, is this hot:

That's more or less how they make those covers, IIRC. :laughings:

They also do more traditional nickel and chrome covers, or bare bobbins, as opposed to the distressed ones - I just think they look badass on bare mahogany like that. :D

as far as covers go, i have switched covers on a set of classic 57s without any problems.

the 57 classic is a great pickup too, more chimey than growly. For the bridge, you would want to go with the 57 classic plus

I sort of agree with you. They do look "bad"..and "like ass". If you would like your car upholstery "distressed" I could burn some cigar holes in the dashboard, smear the seats with peanut butter, and lock a hungry badger inside for a few days. All at premium prices of course. :D

Eh, it's a £10 upcharge for a £210.00 set of pickups - not much of a premium.

But, for you traditionalists... :p

I bought burstbucker's (I & II) on ebay and installed into an epi Les Paul plus top.....a good guitar that now sounds great. Recommend the upgrade. I have a PRS with dragon's, a washburn with an SD '59 and an SD custom and a '74 SG with T Tops and the Epi is my go-to guitar for humbuckers.

yeah, I'm keeping an eye on a couple of burstbuckers on ebay. I might just change the bridge one only at first though, and maybe the neck one later.
