I have been messing with the universal audio pultec eq plug in today. Here is one with it on the vocals and guitar. The cymbal and snare is using what I usually use - the neve 1081 eq. The pultec is a 50's eq and I never really used it much but am getting interested in it now. Tomorrow I am going to run all 4 channels with the pultec and record some. Am Isplitting hairs? I think that what it starts to become the better you get at this recording thing. Nothing drastically different, just subtle differences. Walter

Sounds killer Walt. One of these days I'd like to download one of your songs and play drums to it and send it back to you. Would you mined? Have a good one.

thanks guys! My goal is to sound like I do in a good sounding club.

dodgeaspen: You can do that. I would love to hear what comes out. Probably the best way to do it is to send you an mp3 of just the vocal and guitar tracks. I record 4 track - guitar, harp/vocal, ride cymbal, snare. there will be a lot of snare bleeding on the vocal/harp. There seems to be no way of getting around this until I get serious and build a custom, insulated box that will fit nicely over the snare. I have been thinking of doing this for the bass drum too. I have taken the bass drum out of the recordings because it dominates the vocal/harp track to the point that taming it takes away from the vocal and harp quality. The problem is, everytime I get ready to seriously begin on this building task, I get inspired to play! Let me know if you want me to send you a song.

i think your one of the greatest blues players of all time, not just saying that i really mean it. another better than excellent song.

and thanks to you, i was inspired and finished a song. hopefully i'll get back to studying again lol, and be able to share it with you, not that you'd want to hear it, but i think its kind of cool how it started before i heard yours, then yours was sort of a middle, then extended on from yours and pretty much finished itself

wow- thank you for such a compliment! I am inspired that what I do inspired you. I would love to hear your song. Are you going to post it? If not, email me an mp3 copy. I am having a lot of fun messing with this pultec pro eq plugin. I tried it a couple years ago and opted for the neve 1081 eq. The neve put an instant crispness and warmth on my songs as far as my ears could tell then. the pultec seemed dull in comparison Now, I am finding more warmth and crispness in the pultec. I had a copoun with universal audio and it only cost $29. After messing with it (their 14 day trial is a great thing) for a few hours, I bought it. Walter

trust me the compliment was sincere. i shouldn't say it again, but you are the greatest blues player of all time. i'm not sure what your talking about in the rest of your post, sometimes i end up being more apart of the song, than its technicalities, but now i know i really have to square away and do it. i appreciate the technicalities also, because without them, there wouldn't be this extraordinary beautiful guitar to play on. hopefully i can record something soon, and will post it here or pm you with an mp3. unfortuanetly, today won't be that day, another one of those dastardly days, where work sort of interferes with music, ugh.

truly depressing if you ask me

I can relate on the technical mumbo jumbo of a mess. Sorry to scramble you with it. I am totally self taught on instruments and recording gear and thought myself a minimalist with jargon. It is all about time. There is no getting around the big T. Playing music has always been my priority more than anything else on this earth. I guess my blind drive has led to my life falling into place so I can pretty much play and record as much as I want. Time........... Still I wish I could give myself 3 lives at once because I got a lot of passions.......... Walter

thanks Nakatira! I really enjoyed playing in and seeing your country. It is a beautiful place.

I think it would be cool just fool around with a few songs. You have my personal email so you can send anything any time and I will take it from their and we can see how things turn out.

Very well done. My ears keep telling me that this has *got* to be done by more than one guy, at more than one time. I'm always amazed by your stuff.

Thanks for sharing!

thank you poeticIntensity! I checked your site out and to get a compliment from someone that actually knows how to record music is very inspiring. When I play in my studio I close my eyes and I drift. I really do hear a real band behind me. Thanks! Walter
