I was going to then reorder the names in reverse alpha, then match these, but there is an odd number, which means that LouisV would be paired with himself. So I will do it in reverse alpha order of the second (and third as necessary) letter in the name. This gives:

This challenge requires the person in the second column to create and record a song using the lyrics of the first person in the column. In other words, I (GZ) will be creating and recording a song from NYMorningstar's lyrics, while LouisV will do the same with my lyrics.

I had a request from one contributor who did not want to create a song with lyrics that contained profanities. I created this list, then checked, and all appears well.

Cnix: if Manslick doesn't nominate which of his lyrics to be used, just pick whichever takes your fancy.

Any questions, any problems? Let me know.

Otherwise you now have a month to come up with your song.

p.s. I am not happy with the last line of my chorus. Louisv, feel free to change itif you can thnk of something better.

End of feb is the deadline.

Stuff finished before then can be posted earlier.

Each of you will be invited to comment on the contributions, with an emphasis on how sympathetically the musical interpretations deal with the lyrics.

Well, I have chosen 1 of the 3 songs you submitted, but will keep my choice a mystery until I post the song that I have chosen. The good news is, you can record your songs just the way you meant for them to sound. The bad news, I am gonna record them for the challenge. Sorry about that. Not the best musican or vocal talent here, but will give it my all.

Hey Strat, Wow, I finally have someone that can sing on a song that I have written. I have visited your site and love what you do musically. Thanks for the kind words and I look forward to hearing my song with your talent. Feel free to change anything I have written to fit your style. I have the song completed in my head, but really looking forward to what you have in mind.

This looks like a great little challenge - I was sorely tempted to participate BUT as I have absolutely NO facility with melody I could only go half way & there is no half way.
I look forward to hearing the results.

I echo those sentiments, Ray! I regret not being able to participate this time, but I knew in advance that demands at work would prevent me from devoting adequate time to the challenge. I am looking forward to hearing everyone's contributions. There is a lot of talent here!

LouisV: Let's see if anyone will swap. If not, I don't mind how you pronounce my words. I have to say that I'm very curious how it would sound from someone with quite a different background and perspective; I think your contribution would be very interesting!

That's quite okay.

There are a couple of options:

1 Go through the lyrics that participants have contributed, pick one that you think you can handle, and do that one (which means that some lucky person will hear two versions of their lyrics); or

2 Sit this one out. It can be difficult trying to wrap your head around someone's language, let alone their thoughts.

There may be other options that I haven't though of yet that someone else amy come up with. However, it seems that the others are relatively happy with what they've been given, and there doesn't seem to be a rush to swap with you (perhaps they're all intimidated by my lyrics as well!).
 
How about another option?

Sing it in your native language. The rhyme scheme will be lost but I think it would be very interesting to hear it.

So long as LouisV can handle the translation (but who would know?)
 
where do i post the song once it's done ? here or in another thread ?
 
Status Update

Ok, I have the rhythm guitar, drums and half the bass recorded. Need to work on vocals (:eek:) and if I have time, lead.

What is the absolute deadline? It has been hard to find extended recording time and I want to make sure I have all of the "Must Have" stuff done before I polish off the "Nice to Have" list. This is my first full recording, so I know I will find a more streamlined approach next time around.
