Check out this segment of the Time Warp TV show on Discovery Channel with Mike Mangini.

The drum head and cymbal crash (time warp) near the end are worth the watch. :eek:

 
Certainly is interesting. I had heard about this segment but never actually saw it. Did they ever do the snare wires? I think that'd be neat to see.
 
I think they did show the snare wires when they did the Time Warp with Metallica.
 
The snare hit is impressive, but the cymbal is crash is phenomenal. I never thought a cymbal flexed like that!!! :eek: go to about 4:45 to see.
 
Its pretty nuts to see that cymbal flex like rubber!

Yes, thanks. A quick YouTube search found that one as well.

Again the part with the snare wires is at the end.

In that second video (about 5 minutes in) the host explains why, even though the snare wires vibrate, their behavior is considered to be percussive rather than tonal.

(I assume this is what Chiken was referring to.)
