Hey guys.

I just purchased a Samson G-track microphone with a pop filter:

http://www.samsontech.com/products/productpage.cfm?prodID=1917

It comes with a free Sonar LE program.

I understand that this microphone does not even come close to having good quality. But for me, this is enough. (i'm also broke)

So here are my questions:

1. What's the best free recording software I can use?

2. Is there anyway to record custom drum tracks without actually owning a drum kit. This sounds stupid, but is there anyway to create a custom drum track within this free recording software I wasasking about previously?

3. Is there anyway I could record with autotune for free? If so how?

4. This might go either way, but is it better to record guitar tracks first, and THEN vocals? Or do people record both at the same time?

Thanks guys!

1). Here is a free DAW (Digital Audio Workstation) that is much much better than audacity. It's called Reaper and it's a free unlimited trial with the only downside being (Now don't quote me on this as I'm not 110% sure) that it takes a bit longer to load up unless you pay the 60$. (thank god for copy and paste ;))

2). yes, there are free drum VSTi's (Virtual Studio Technology instrument) all over the web, keep in mind that they won't be the absolute best quality unless you pay for them.

3). here is a free knock off of autotune called Gsnap. It's a Vst so just copy it into reapers VST folder.

4). That's all a matter of preference. Some people make a simple drum track first until they can get the rhythm parts down (guitar & bass) and go back and redo the drums later on. Just try whatever you think will be best for you.

For question number 2. Which VSTi program is the best in your opinion? (out of the free ones).

Thank you for answering my questions!

hmm... well as for the best, that's subjective. One persons best may be another persons worst.
and on top of that I wouldn't really know what the best free drum vst would be because I have EZ drummer.

But some advice I can give you is to use THIS site.

It just about any vst you could ever need and their all pretty good.

Good luck to ya!!

Also, I have Mixcraft 4.

Do you think Mixcraft is better or Reaper??
