My brother called the other day and told me that when he powered up his 1000 he noticed that the deck powered up in the reverse play direction. He uses it a few times a week so it doesn't sit for months at a time. Anyone have any thoughts? Maybe a sticky relay or something like that? I've never seen this problem before. Have any of you guys ever ran into this? Sounds dumb but I suggested that he unplugs it for a few minutes and then tries it. I don't know. Thanks for the help in advance.

I could still use some help.

I asked my brother if unplugging the reel helped and he said no. I could use some advice on this. It's not a huge thing I guess, but I'd like to be able to point him in some kind of direction.

I don't have a very clear memory of that deck but seem to recall it having a timer switch so that it could be controlled to come on at a given time in the play or record mode via an external AC timer. Does the switch of that function have a setting to select the direction of play or just a play/off/rec setting? Or possibly just leaving that switch in the middle "off" position should stop the deck from auto playing in any direction when powered up, unless there is some other issue with the deck?

Otherwise, I'm not sure what else to check for?

Cheers! :)

I found a picture of the deck on google and indeed there are timer buttons for forward and reverse play which if depressed, will trigger the play mode when the deck is powered up.

Get him to check those buttons!

Cheers! :)

Your a genius Ghost. Thanks so much. I called and told him what you said and sure enough!! Thanks, I appreciate it.:D:D:D:D:D:D

congrats!

a side note-some folks with certain nakamichi cass. decks have had the same problem, the record-timer switch being left in the 'on' position.
upon 'power-up' (and operator wanting to play a tape), the deck would go right into 'record' thereby sometimes erasing already recorded material (if operator had forgotten to set the switch to 'off'.)

Glad it worked out and that I finally actually helped somebody here! :)

What do ya mean, finaly??? You do a lot of good around here. I have lots of good wallpaper pics. And not just that, you have given me advice in the past that has been useful. Thanks again.

I don't have a deck like this and I'm surprised that he didn't notice it before. Thanks for the post man. Have a good one.
