I multi-track record with a Presonus firepod and cubase LE. Someone told me that if I run my mixes out of the firepod and into an analog mixer (or better yet, an analog 4-track or 8-track) AND then back into the firepod this would greatly enhance the sound of my stereo mixdowns. Is this true?

Any suggestions on how to configure from the firepod through the analog and back? The firepod has 8 trs balanced outputs.

Thanks!

Theoretically it's true. In practice, given the quality of gear your most likely to have access to, it's highly unlikely to make any difference . . . there will be other factors affecting quality which would overwhelm any notional gains you could make . . . and those gains are are very dependent on particuarly good outboard, analog gear.

You could end up causing yourself a lot of grief for no return.

Thanks for the feedback. I tried the method this morning with one of the tracks and I thought it sounded a bit better, I'm not sure in what way... Maybe I'd been mixing too much. I am having a hard time bringing some clarity out of the mix, no matter what I do, it sounds kind of muddy. It has 4 drum tracks, 4 vocal tracks, bass, acc guitar and 3 synth. What could be the reason behind the "muddiness" sound?

muddy sound is probably from the get go. Try re-recording say the guitar track and this time make it a bit bright to your taste by it's self with no compression etc save that for post work. Then see how it fits in to the mix as a whole. If you like that redo everything like that and you'll have a much better final whole mix
