Hey guys,
I have 2 SDC overheads for my drumset, an Audix i5 for the snare and an Audix D6 for the bass drum. I'm currently using a MOTU828mk2 for my interface which means I have 2 XLR jacks with preamps for the condensers and 8 TRS inputs at the back of the unit that I was assuming I could use to plug the 2 dynamic mics directly into (they don't need phantom power correct?) My problem is that even at the highest gain, the analog inputs at the back are giving me almost no signal from the dynamic mics. The dynamics work fine when I plug them into the XLR inputs in the front, but that doesn't do me any good as I need those for the overheads which require the phantom power. Do I need a preamp for the other two mics also? Is it because the TRS inputs aren't at the correct level for amplification? If not, any suggestions for what I might be missing, or what I need to purchase? I feel like I've tried everything else.
Thanks in advance for the help!
