PITA but worth it.

one thing to remember when panning drums is that just a wee bit of panning on a close-miced track can have a huge effect as a result of the sound captured by the OH's...i did a mix a couple of days ago where i panned the hi-hat about 15% right, but it ended up sounding as though it came exclusively from the right speaker because of the OH placement. same thing goes for toms - i used to hardpan the hi and lo toms left and right, but then realized that panning them about 1/2-2/3 each direction works fine, because again, the OH's will fill out the rest of the stereo spread

i still haven't got this thing figured out. i have always used a pair of sdc's above the kit. i'm gonna try something different this time i think.

like i said, the room is small and sounds not that great. how else can i make better use of those two mics, if not above the kit?

....or should i put an ldc in front of the kit instead of the two sdc's? I'm limited on tracks so i can't do both.
