I saw that I had to download the lame_enc.dll. which I did, and I downloaded it to the C:/Programs/Reaper file, but then I get lost on where or how to export these files so I can download them to a CD or Microsoft windows to listen in media player. Any suggestions how to export these wav. files over to mps3 format?

Individual tracks, or your finished mix?

If the later, then the function you want is Render. Select mp3 as your file type, I guess - I've never played around with exporting mp3 files, as I just export wave and then do some volume maximizing stuff in my editor.

Just a track I been working on. I'm new to Reaper and home recording, so I have no idea what "render" is or what you mean by it. Should I not be transfering it to a mp3? How can I play my track in my computer (ie windows media player) or download to a CD?

Okay I got the render but now it comes up with some codecs error? C00D109B error

Go to menu bar along the top. 'File' then 'Render'. This will give you the choixe of which format you want to render in.

For playing files in media player or for burning files to CD, render in WAV format.

If you need MP3 files, you can convert them later.

I'm doing this but for some reason WMP is not able to play the file. I've tried to render in Mono, stereo, channels 2 and 4 etc etc. And I can not get it to play the file. Now I'm being told to download VLC which is like Windows Media player because it does not use codecs.. -shrugs- we'll see

What bitrate are you rendering in? Depending on what version of WMP you're using, it might not like 24-bit.

You could just render as a wave, then use Lame to convert it outside of Reaper...

I'm using WMP 7 and it is 24bit.. I just now downloaded the VLC media player and it renders and plays just fine, but I can not burn/rip from this program, well not at least I have not seen anything. I went to the 'help' section and that wasn't much help lol.. I still can not seem to render to WMP even when I lower the bit.. I have tried to render as a WAV file and a mp3 and neither works for me!

Hi there,

Hopefully I can help..

As mentioned, using the "render" option is what you want to do. This allows you to combine all of your tracks, convert tracks to different file formats, etc.. What you want to do is render your project to a single mp3 file.

Step 1:
Here is a finished project that is ready to be rendered to mp3. Don't worry about the different colors or track heights or any of that. This is just an example file.

Step 2:
Go to File -> Render...

Step 3:
This is where the conversion "magic" happens. You already have the lame_enc.dll file.
* First things first, Go to the "Output Format" dropdown box and select "MP3 (encoder by LAME project)"
* Now go to the top and change the "sample rate" to "44100".
* You can choose if you want a mono or stereo file. In this case, we'll use stereo because we have tracks that are panned to the left and right within the project. Most projects are in stereo.
* Next, change the "resampling mode" to "Extreme 512pt HQ Sinc". If the tracks in your project were recorded at a higher sample-rate than 44100 (the one you specified earlier) this will allow the final result to be more accurate. I recommend this setting on all renders.
* Make sure "Render entire project" is selected.
* Name your file. You can use the "Browse..." button to tell REAPER where you want your file to be saved.
* Now go to the "Quality" dropdown and select whichever quality you like. The higher the quality, the larger the file. If you want to be specific about your bitrate, you can choose ABR (manual), CBR (manual), or Custom.
*Finally, make sure "Render master mix" is checked and click "Render"

And that's it! I hope that helps. This will give you an mp3 that works in any media player that supports mp3s (including Windows Media Player.)

If you have anymore questions, ask away :)
It's what we're here for!

Thank you for taking the time to show me screen shots those really help. I did all of that just as you suggested, and I now get the error message that I must download lame_enc.dll and I already downloaded this, but when I open to install the lame_enc.dll file, I get a popup telling me that windows needs to know who created this. I have two options 1) choose between a list (and I don't know which one to choose) or 2) allow the Web to find it, so I tried that one and when I click on the button for the web to find it; it comes up to a page that can not be found?

Ok I see the problem. You don't need to install lame_enc.dll, all you need to do is put the lame_enc.dll file in the REAPER folder (most likely C:\Program Files\REAPER)

You can find it here: http://jthz.com/~lame/
The first link is a zip file. You can ignore everything in the file except the lame_enc.dll file. This is the only one you need. Just copy and paste :)

If you're running REAPER 64-bit, you need the 64-bit version of the encoder, which you can download here: http://forum.cockos.com/showthread.php?t=34860

Again, all you need to do is put lame_enc.dll in your REAPER folder.

Thank you again for being patient with me. When I open the Reaper folder I see that Lame_enc is already in there but it's zipped? And when I try to unzip the file this is when I run into the probelm, opening with what program? I tried Reaper and it say's "Error is opening media file" ?

Here is a Screen shot of all the files I have inside of my Reaper folder..

Okay so I extracted the file, but it still does not allow me to open it. I still get the same error messages when trying to render in mp3 format.. It's saying that I must download lame_enc.dll ?

ive got your answer :)

render the project to wav format. best qualites. With my answer the quality won't be changed. So render the project then download a software called Absolute Audio Converter. Its amazing. It'll take that HUGE wav file you'll have and make into any other type of file with the same quality, and if you were making it mp3 it generally makes it one tenth the size :)

That's really strange.. It really shouldn't be this hard.

I have the 32-bit version here. I'll PM it to you. Are you sure you're not running the 64-bit version of REAPER?

Put the lame_enc.dll file into C:\WINDOWS\system32

If it still tells you that it needs the file, you are doing something terribly, terribly wrong.

I'm running Reaper V3.13

I don't know if that is 64-bit?
