For the most part is a a great start for a budget studio. I would however not buy the dbx 266XL or the ART 341 Dual Channel 15-Band Equalizer. Use the plug-ins that come with your DAW until you get used to them, then move up buying additional plug-ins. Plug-in development has come a long way, so unless you have some high dollar outboard gear, I would stick with their plug-in counterparts.

my biggest concern is Presonus as a company.

are there products quality or do they lack?

am i missing anything important that i might need?

any convenience items that i may want to look into?

Thanks,
Bisson

I have used MOTU products for a decade now and I am very happy with them.
Down the road I would suggest getting better mic pres, but not until you get several projects under your belt and have learned the craft more.

If oyu could suggest some other pre's that you are fond of it would be well appreciated!.

What is the max number of mics you plan to use at one time?

probably 8.

im planning on having 6 on the drum kit and obviously 1 channel for bass and rhythm guitar.

my plan would be for those 3 to all play together for the root of the song.

they seem to be discontinued and i looked on the mackie site and could not find them either. i couldnt find any preamps actually, which makes me think that maybe they are no longer making preamps?

My concern is your spending say 25% of your budget to record a vocal through a condensor mic but only 5% on monitoring and nothing at all on room treatment to make sure what you hear as accurate.

I'f your going to spend $1k on a mic and $600 on an interface why are you looking at very low end monitors to try and mix on and not thinking about the listening/and recording room accuracy

to paraphrase many of the seasoned vets on this site if you can't hear it accurately you can't record or mix it accurately.
Not as sexy as flashing electronics but I'd built in some budget for broadband trapping and look at better monitors if your serious about this.

im getting the rooms all squared away, i didnt add all that info into this because i was focusing on peoples opinions of the gear im looking at.

you think monitors are lacking? any suggestions?

Hi there,

1. I have not comments on computer

2. PreSonus FireStudio Project for 500$

3. Why do you wnat to spend extra 600$ for the same preamps as you have in the interface? Where is the point?

4. If you exclude Presonus preamp from the list I would recommend buying two compressors instead

VCA
dbx 160A Compressor Limiter

Opto
ART Pro VLAII

5. Vocal mic - right choise!

6. Right choise again on drum mics

7. Monitors
KRK RP8G2
The most "honest" among affordable monitors I have heard. A must have.
I did test with a sliding frequency generator. No distortions and frequency responce is quite uniform.

That's all from my side.

Cheerz!!

If you did not want to get a refurbished one from Musician's Friend or a used one on Ebay, Mackie has their new line: 1620i; although it is a mixer, it has the firewire.

Another mic you might want to look into instead of the Neuman TLM-103 is the AT-4047. This might free up some cash for something else too.

Hi there,
3. Why do you wnat to spend extra 600$ for the same preamps as you have in the interface? Where is the point?

That is why I suggested the Mackies, to replace both Presonus units.

hmm... i didnt realize they were the same preamps ont he presonus units and that mackie unit is intriguing... what can you tell me about it?

Here is the best place to learn about it:
Mackie 1620i

You can do searches on this forum for "Onyx" and you should find several great threads about their mic pres.

Another good source for learning about gear is gearslutz.com

yea i've been researching all aobut it and im really thankful that you guys have shown me this! im pretty much sold on it, its great.

i just hope the preamps are as cracked up as they are said to be!

im skeptical of reviews that i read on the internet because i dont know what reviews are legit and what reviews are people that work for the company that write random reviews to promote their product, which is why i look for answers on forums aswell.

so anything you can tell me would be great!

again thanks a bunch, im very into this product.
