really...just like stealing a car?
..that's preposterous
much of pirated software is used by curious kids..is that like stealing a car in a showroom?
much of pirated software is used by people who go on to buy legitimate software when they do take it seriously..is that like stealing a car in a showroom?
downloading a couple of hundred dollars program that you probably wouldn't buy in the first place is like stealing a 20k car from a showroom?
The car showroom analogy was used by someone else, and I continued. Of course $20k is not the same as $200, but the action is the same . . . taking something that you have no right to.
And as for "much of pirated software is used by curious kids". That makes it alright, does it? I can't imagine in what circumstances curiosity would be a valid defence for theft:
"Sorry, your honour, I was curious to see what the book was like before I bought it, so I stole it to have a read."
"Well, that's alright, son. I see your curiosity got the better of you. Not guilty. Next!"
And even more 'preposterous' is the idea that "I would never buy it anyway, which means it's okay to steal it." That's what joyriders do.
