I've got an opportunity to score a Tascam 34 for pretty cheap, but I'm wondering what the difference is in the "B" model and the first gen. Is there such a difference to where I should hold off and look for a "B" model? Also, anyone have a line on where I can get a manual in pdf form to peruse through? I like the idea of having a 3 head, 4 track, 7.5ips/15ips machine. It might (kind of) replace my 424mkII.:D

dunno the differences...did you search the forum? I know there was a thread of the same nature at some point...

Sending you a PM...

Big difference.

The 34B has 1/4"-mic/line inputs (with attenuation pads), input/output level controls and a 4x1 mono headphone amp onboard. The 34 doesn't have these features.;)

I think I can live those limitations.:p

So are you gonna go for it? Didn't you say you have 8 decks already? WOW! Hope you get it.

If I hear back from the guy I'll snap it up. Hasn't responded since I sent him the email this morning.

Hehe, I've got 6 decks at the moment. (3) RT-909 decks, (1) GX-230D, (1) TC-230, and (1) TSR-8. I'm hoping to pick up the 34 tomorrow, along with a Teac (A2300, I think) that a friend is giving me. Lots o' tape machines in this little room!:D

man... I know who I'll pick up first for the analoholic's anonymous meeting

Including parts decks I think I was up to 9 at one point, but now its just 5.

But one of them (the MM-1000) must count for at least 2.

I have:

Ampex 440B parts transport
Ampex 440C (almost complete) 2-track
Ampex 440B-8 that will be getting parted out
Ampex MM-1000-8
Tascam BR-20T

Soon I'll just be down to 3 and then I'll likely be making a decision between the BR-20T and 440C halftracks.

ARG!

Make that 7...forgot about the 388 and the 388 parts machine. :o

Hmmm, I might be interested in the BR-20T if you decide to get rid of that one.:D

How many decks does Dave have BTW?

Don't go there.

Ethan is guilty now too...let's see...

MCI JH-110
Tascam BR-20
Tascam 38
Tascam 58 with a parts deck
Ampex ATR-700
Tascam MS-16

I know there is one more person on here that can make this look small and Im sure he will soon.

ANyway the thing I want to say is DONT GET LIKE THIS!:D
I learned the hard way about collecting to much gear.

Don't forget the 34 and the 32 and I think that there is a cassette deck (AKAI MO2) floating around.Oh, and a X10R.

But I pale when next to some here on the list.

OK, I have to jump in:

2x TASCAM 34b
Otari MX5050 MKIII-2
TEAC X10-R
TASCAM 48-OB

For a total of five decks! (And yes, each has its own purpose!)
