Basically an AC15 with more gain. Yes it is cathode biased. Amazing sounding little amp. Can do just about anything with some fiddling, including metal.

I compared it side by side to an Egnater Rebel, and liked the Night Train slightly more for the sound I was trying to get.

I purchased the Vox NightTrain several weeks ago. I love everything about this amp. It provides some really appealing clean tones, but it distorts well enough to cover other music styles. The "clean" setting, in my opinion, does a good job of providing classic Vox sound. Despite where this amp is now made (?UK, ?China), I found it to be a very good build. It lacks an FX loop and headphone port, but that made little difference to me. Being a toaster model, it lacks a reverb; however, I remedied that by buying the Lee Jackson Mr. Springgy. I would not hesitate to use it as a studio amp. This amp also responds really well to a compression pedal with mild settings.
