Can I use the same brand of talc on my ebony fretboards that I use on the rosewood ones, or do I need a finer powder for ebony?

Cheers.:)

Since ebony is a much more closed-grain wood than rosewood, I assume you'd want a much finer, higher grade of talcum power for the ebony, so it can get down in the grain really well.

I dunno, Muttley and Light are the experts - they'll probably smite me with facts, as usual. :o

Could you try taking regular Gold Bond and then grinding it up a bit finer with a mortar and pestle?

If so, do you have to wash it before use, if the last thing you ground was cumin seeds, or would that help you get a better Texas blues tone?

No wait a second, I'm really curious now. If I want a good, spicy Texas blues tone, should I try rubbing something like an ancho chile powder on my strings? Or would I be better served with maybe a chipotle powder? Or would that be too smokey?

I'm so confuuuuuused!

Smoked paprika will mask all sorts on unsavoury tone flavours in your playing. You can play everything from Mexican to Italian if you use it too.

May I just take this opportunity on behalf of the group to apologise to Chili and other mods for this shameful display.

We tried to take it to the cave but someone wasn't playing there.:o

Muttley, that's a "politician's apology" if I ever heard one. :D

WTF are you guys talking about?

Oh I see, you think it's funny cos VP said 'douche powder' childish.

Well fek you lot, I'm trying to learn stuff.

VP I think I put too much on, it's everywhere, I sneezed. :o

Don't worry it vanishes into thin air on contact.

I've tried to stay out of this debate. You guys are crazy. You should never use talc on ebony. The only proper treatment for ebony is powdered asbestos. Get chrysotile if you can. The sharper edges help it bond to the wood so it lasts longer. Smokers especially will appreciate the improvement in tone.
