Rebuilding a pc?

Couple of thoughts.

If you try to get things really quiet with the Acer case you've got, you're gonna find out that space is cramped.

You'll need to look for smallish power supplies. Which means anything with a 120-140mm fan is out, just because it will not fit in this case. So you're stuck with one that uses an 80mm fan, which will likely be noisy.

Same goes with CPU cooler.

If you can somehow generate enough airflow in this case, you may be able to get away with a fanless PSU, but don't hope to get anything higher than 400W supply. This may become an issue if you find yourself needing to use a powerful video card for video editing.

I think Ima skimp out on video editing for now...I plan on using two different pcs for each.

So lets another thing cleard up...so are you saying that a 120-140mm fan IS NOT going to work or are you just stating that it will be noisy...Noise won't be much of an issue since I built a cabinet for the pc.

 
I just upgraded a computer this week. I went with the new Intel based i5 system and a gigabyte board, 550 watt power supply, 4gb ddr3 ram and a decent video card. I actually was reading Maximum PC today at the grocery store and saw the i5 and but it on my list of CPU's...

Hey man...do you mind if I build tha same pc as you? lol:D:):confused:

No not at all. I actually did quite a bit of research before deciding on this. You could also go with a dual or quad core system for a little bit cheaper and I'm sure it would be awesome. I just thought for a little bit more I wouldn't have to upgrade for quite some time hopefully.

Thanx man! I mean I don't wanna go to duo core b/c Ive been reading alot of magazines/forums about how duo cores are gonna start becoming things of the past and alotta programs are gonna start taking advantage of quad cores and so forth...thats the main reason Im tryna step my game up with this build.

I was actually gonna buy a prebuilt pc this coming holiday season but I figured why not just build something on my own and it would be cheaper (even tho Im illerate in this area).

Anyways...thanx man! I appreciate your list, it's a big help to me!

Also...ya' can keep adding a list for me as well. I'd greatly appreciate it!

No, I am saying 80mm fan is going to be noisy. To cut down on noise, but keep enough airflow for cooling, quiet power supplies use larger fans, which lately have been in the 135-140mm size. However, supplies with larger fans are also larger overall (at least as far as depth is concerned). So you might have issues having a PSU with a large fan fitting in that case that you have.

So, something to keep in mind with fans (case fans, CPU cooler fans, PSU fans), larger fan + lower RPM = less noise.
