If a mic sees no love here...they will eventually discontinue it...and you can buy it cheap...if I had the chance to get a ribbon that wasnt a Nady cheap...Id probubly buy one...there is no love for the Ribbon Version of the MXL v67 either...Id probubly consider that since the Shures are higher priced.
Mines certainly not bright...but works awesome on my guitar cab. If i use the backside of the mic, it may be slightly brighter.....but not really noticeable.
i wouldnt call it bright mic....but certainly is warm and balanced sounding. A perfect mic to pair with a SM57 when dual mic'ing my cabs.
I picked up the Trion 7000 / M189 combo for $200. I thought, what the heck, try it and dump it if I didn't like it. It has become the go to mic for guitar cabs in conjunction with the M189, an SM57 etc. etc.
I would think the 7000 would be great on woodwinds and brass.
For the money, I don't think it's a bad mic at all. Lack of reviews isn't an issue as much as bad reviews. IMO
