okay, enough ballads now.........back to the heavy stuff.

I'm particularly fond of this song, it was the title song of my last CD. That was 2 years ago, so now, in the belief that maybe I've managed to learn something, I've rerecorded it completely from scratch.

Would like to know what you think about it, I'm open to any suggestions.

Man, this is a very well written song. Very good vocal delivery that at times reminds me of Dio, or Dee Snider. The lyrics are great, the recording is really solid. I would prefer a bit more compressed sound to get it to pound a little more...a personal thing maybe. Also the lead vox i think need to be comp'd a little harder and perhaps doubled to fatten them up, and the drums are a little verby. I am also on shit speakers now so this may be a different ballgame when i can hear it on my studio monitors. Overall i would say pretty kickbutt as is.

Sounds pretty good. Guitars and vocals sound excellent. The reverby drums fit the genre, but I'd like em a little drier and maybe a hair louder.

Wow!!! :eek::eek:

This has everything. The mix is big and really heavy duty, the song itself is great, and your vox are killer. And maybe I just haven't noticed in your other mixes/tunes, but the bass guitar is great in this one. Love the doubled guitar parts too. And the clean picking guitar along with the heavy guitar on the verses works really well.

My only nit would be the same as Greg's suggestion. The drums could come up a tad to hang with that wall of guitar beauty...

(Just got to the end--nice job yanking on the toggle switch! :D)

I'm truly impressed Joe...

Joey - W O W!

Yes, the bass does have a good tone - well done.
Are you taller the R.J.Dio?

Just for interest's sake could you post the original so we can do an A - B?

Vocals are just kickin', man. I think drums should come up more than a tad, they should be the driving energy in this song.

Cool tune, Joey.

Thanx, Man!
Yeah, Dio is one of my icons......:)
Song itself has a dark apocalyptic subject to it. I was being very careful with compressing the mix, at times it felt like I was flattening it too much. But this is a first mix anyway, I'll be reviewing it for sure.

Yeah, I'll definitely be cutting down on the drum verb and I'll check the level too.

Appreciate your comments, as always! :):):)

Thanx for the great comments, Bob! :)
I think I've finally found a good way to record and EQ the bass. I take it direct thru DI and miced with an SM57 up real close to the grill. It's also precompressed with a DBX comp before it goes in the box. Don't know where I heard the toggle switch trick, but it's a nice effect when the axe doesn't have a whammy bar.....:D

Appreciate your comments, as always! :):):):)

Thanx, Ray, glad you like it! :)
I have to be be taller than RJD....he holds the record for small heavy metal singers with a BIG voice! :D
Isn't it incredible that such a big voice is locked up in that little body?

I'll post the old version when I get home today, but if you'd like, the original is still on my themspace page.....

Hey there, bro! :)
I'll be checking those drums. Thanx for the nice comments! :):):):)

I found the download option!!! :D

I can't offer any mix suggestions because the speakers on this pc are crap, but I really enjoyed the song!

Killer vocal performance on this one!

Hi Joey - Wow, you're very talented. This song is great. Love the sound. Your vocal rock - excellent voice! I'm really enjoying listening to everyone's songs on this site. Thanks for posting!

Thanx, Jen! :)
You're right about this site. Best radio show on earth. So many talented people here, it's really fun listening to all their stuff. ;) :)
I'm working on a new mix now and should have it by tomorrow.

Hey, what is "rep power" and why do I have "points"?

If you go to your USER CP, you'll see people giving you points. "Reputation Points" aren't worth anything, but some will say it's a rating of socializing. To give someone rep, you click on the little "Balance" symbol (what's that thing called?) in every post.

Now back to JoeyM's regularly scheduled thread. :D

Wow. Your voice is so completely suited for this genre! Really quite amazing.

Everything appears to be in order here...nothing too out of place. My only thought is (I am on pc speakers (bad :() but am a veteran listener of much 80's metal (good :))) that the aforementioned verbed out drums are a drawback. That is one of the aspects of vintage metal that hasn't held up too well to my ears. Bring them forward and more in yer face and you bring the whole track stylistically forward a couple of decades...that may not be your desire, but just a thought.

Truly solid regardless.

Thanx Heatmiser!:)
On the new mix I'll have less verb on the drumkit. Stylistically, I guess it does lean on 80's Iron Maiden or Dio but it's what it is. When I arrange a song, I usually build everything around the voice and this was the style that fitted best, I think. Thanx for the compliments and the comments, I appreciate it! :):)

I agree with the comments about the verb on the drums. What a cool song though, and that vocal performance is outstanding
