like the wind - heavy bluesy (biker) thang

Hey Guys,

here's my new one called Like the Wind (for True when she rides her Harley...:D). It's a heavy bluesy hippyish kinda thang, I don't know.......
spent the weekend mixing it and I'm not entirely happy. Might have overdid it with the low end a bit....anyway just tell me what you think.

Sounds great in my headphones, Joeym - bass is just right.

kickass song! Got some soundgarden groove, but stands very well on its own. Nice playing and mixing. Picturing True riding a chopper... :D

OK, maybe the bass drum could come down a little, but it still sounds good.

edit: oh yeah, and what wah pedal did you use?

Soundgarden or STP. Sounds a lot like STP to me. Which means it sounds a little dated, unfortunately. Overall though, it's a cool song. The recording seems decent, I like the solo guitar sounds much. The wah is cool but maybe a little overused. The rhythm guitar sounds to DI. I want to hear an amp.

The song could benefit from a major change or bridge. Too repetitive.

Hey Antichef!
Thanx for the nice comments ;) It's definitely not gonna be the end-mix...
My wah pedal is a cheap chinese make called Harley Benton for about $20. Does its job though :D

Thanx for listening in....
but who's STP?
Dated?? Oh, I don't think in those terms you see...it's all about the music I love to me, whatever age it's from. In my book there are 2 kinds of music: good or bad. So it all comes down to taste. So you think bands like Audioslave, Alter Bridge and Black Stone Cherry are dated....

Damn, this means I won't make it big, earn millions, miss out on all the drugs and the groupies...yeah, life sure is tough :p

Oh, yeah, and the song does have a middle bridge variation, just in case you missed it..

Cheers

Another good one Joe..I personally liked the use of the wah here. Good riding music. There is something in the mix that's just not in your face somehow.maybe the rythym guit? Wish I could pinpoint it, but it's still a patented Joe rocker like I like em.

Sounds pretty kick-ass to me-everything works well and True will totally love it! Great use of panning throughout, seems like most of the hardcore bikers I know would say that Steppenwolf was one of the ultimate biker bands, so I can't see how this would put this song in the 'dated' era.........

yeah, one more thing......
the guitars ARE amp and not DI...or do you think I've got a magic plugin for guitar feedback??? I think next time you should listen to the WHOLE song.

Hey Riffmaster, Anfontan,

the guitars could be a bit more in your face, that's true....

Oh, so that's who STP are :D

I just had to have a song where I could let go on my wah-pedal...it was fun.

Like I said, dated doesn't belong to my musical vocabulary. It's a word invented by A&R men, desperate record companies and garbage radio. What some newbies here don't understand is that we in this forum are free of that shit and we share our music with each other, 'cos we wanna learn and not to promote our egos...so there.

Thanx for your nice comments, guys, really appreciate it!

Cheers

Joe,

Great job with this one man! I for one love the Wah! Great balance on the mix--everything seems like it's sitting just right. I love the guitars moving in the stereo field--very nicely done.

As always the vocals are killer. This isn't dated--just great-straight-between-the-eyes rock and roll. Great job man!

I was a bit worried that the bass was too loud, i.e. I didn't know if it would have been better to roll off some low end. Bass drum could be little too loud. I lowered the mids in the mix , sounded OK I guess on different speakers but I still wasn't too sure. Maybe because One o' these Nights turned out so good.....

I think it would be a good idea though to try a second mix just to compare.

Always appreciate your comments ;)

It's not often that I say this......but turn that kick down! :D

The rest sounds pretty good. I love the present bass rumbling underneath everything. The guitars could use more meat to me. They sound a little thin, but not bad. Maybe they just need to be a little louder. Vocals are fantastic.

AHAHHAHA :D:D
told you I felt it too loud! I'll see what I can do to the guitars, maybe that's why they're not so "in your face". Thanx for the advice and the compliment!

:D...Wild like the wind!!...oh yah...I can see me and the hog crusin' down the hwy listening to this!! I may get my ass a ticket though, for heavy throttle use!!!

I've only had a couple of listens Joey...been in and out tonight with things to do and riding too! Me loves me hog! I love the wah in this song too! I don't know if it's just me, but the intro wah seems just a bit too loud 04 -13 seconds..seems disjointed from the song to my ear.

I agree with GregL about the kick...the rest sounds good upon the two listens. The beat pauses and the wahs coming in and out to accentuate are great. I really like the dead stop outro too. Fits the song.

Your vocals are awesome!!! I wish I could get that deep gutteral and dirty rockin' sound out of my voice!...BV are great too!!...and hey...thanks for the song!!..me and the hog appreciate it!

Oh...and stop posting DATED sounding music in this forum... or you will be asked to leave and take GregL with you!!!!!:D

Picturing True riding a chopper... :D
Hey...now there's something to think about...chop chop!!;)

That pedal is probably the only thing cheap with Harley in the name!!!
True will totally love it!
And she does...totally!!:D

This isn't dated--

I HATE dated music. I'm keeping up with the very latest trends from the 19th century.:D

Excellent. I don't recall hearing your vocals before, very impressive stuff. Very soulful, a bit unusual, and very cool. Guitar stuff is cool, as is the song. In parts the guitars could be a hair louder but it would be case by case as to not cover the vox.

The background vox could be panned a bit differently as to not step on the sonic territory of the lead. Other than that, that's all I got. Excellent listen.

Very very nice. I too heard some STP influence...Stone Temple Pilots.

Wish I could sing like that.

Mike

I can hear the STP (don't take the stuff m'self) references as well as S'garden.
I love wah - pasrticularly when it moves within the sound stage - I though I was the only one who was into that these days.
Well played & performed. the only thing I don't like is the tone of the Bass Drumm - sounds a bit fake - too clicky. I'm old enough to remember & enjoy deep bass sick drums that moved chest muscles.
I'd like to hear this loud on my main stereo - should fill the space nicely.
Top job.

So glad you like it, True!:)
Song's about breaking out of the shit life puts us thru and feeling the wind in our face whilst riding into the sun......

I'm working on another mix right now to fix the stuff you guys pointed out and get some more balance....

I'va heard your voice and it's nice and raunchy too, real rock'n'roll lady stuff. How about if we did a song together....? I'm sure that would rock :D

As always, thanx for your support and comments!

Wow...coming from an artist like you, that's one hell of a compliment, David!
The BV's are 2 different harmonies each sung twice left and twice right. They're panned between 10 and 7 o' clock on the left side and exactly the opposite on the right side. Unfortunately I've bounced them all on 1 stereo track and erased the originals, so probably there's little I can do to pan them. Guitars are getting reviewed right now.....

Thanx for taking the time :)
