So for companies who use destructive marketing tactics, you spite them by
#1: Buying their product
#2: Sharing their product with other people?
Yeah, you're really teaching them a lesson.

If they disable my computer, wasting my time and have no address, no e-mail and no information that I can use to ask them to please remove their spamware, if it is cheap enough I will buy a copy, get rid of their spamware and give it to the free world. You will be recording someday and one of these numbnuts will disable your computer. See how much fun it is then. Our IT department could not fix the last two times this has happened. If any companty chooses to sell their product by causing people real problems, they should lose their shirt. Good honest companies are entitled to their money and have their software protected.

Actually no I won't, because I don't download and open random shit on the computer I record with (or, really, any computer I use). This is called being an informed internet user.

Neither do I. The last two times this has happened I was at legitimate sites, The software companies (spamware blckers/Virus programs) send down a pop-up banner that pops up every 2 minutes and looks like a microsoft warning telling you your computer is screwed. This type of bullshit is sent to your computer if it is hooked up to the internet. You can get it from your e-mail as well. Once it is there, they direct you to their website to buy their software which will remove their spamware. There is no contact info, no phone # and no way to contact them to remove this shit. The only way to get it out is to re-format and rebuild the computer. They suck and I have purchased their product, removed said spam and given it out to the free world. They lose.

Oh, and DFH2 software is the worst shit ever written. I wasted too much $$$ on that uninstallable, unseable piece of shit. It shouid be pirated, the hackers certainly could do nothing but improve it.

Without good demos, I would not even thing about buying software anymore, but I don't use pirated stuff. No demo, I just don't bother with it no matter how good the description is.

There is almost never spy/malware or viruses that you can't manually remove. Google is your friend.

I do not understand what that last post was about... anyone else?

Yes that's right, $35100 I've SPENT since 1995.

NOW, maybe it's just my opinion but... this crap isn't cheap. PERIOD. Most software has copy protection that doesnt allow you to copy to back up. Not even crating a cd image always works. SO HERES MY THEORY. ONLY if you OWN, have in possesion the ACTUAL OEM disc, I feel that it is ok to have the cracked software AS A BACK UP. The ONLY way. Trust me, I had a disc that got scratched and inusable, and another disc that got cracked by a client. Grant it was my fault for having it out but still.

Sorry, I feel my $35K I've spend is worth backing up. :D

Cheers

no one is getting ripped

If you use a cracked copy, you will deprive a rich person of more riches. Boooo fucking hooooo!! So many musicians who have no money would be nowhere without cracks. I think people that talk about stealing peoples profits are deluded.

You're also depriving hard-working developers of future wages, smart guy.

This is way over hyped. I don't use cracked software, and don't recommend it to anyone, especially if they care about what they are recording. However, most people that steal software would not have put the money out to buy a legit copy anyway....hence, there is no profit loss, or anyone put out of work. A lot of the software companies jump on the bandwagon of "pirating is forcing us to raise our prices", but it's simply an excuse to do so, which makes them just as dishonest as the people pirating the crap.

Become a educated consumer. I use N-track because it's cheap enough that nobody pirates it, and it does everything the $500 software does. Small company that doesn't jump on the "raise our price to bang the honest consumers, while using the excuse of dishonest consumers" bandwagon.
If you want to fuck me because someone else is stealing your shit...fuck you, I'm not interested in your product.

It's not hard to find out where a software company stands on these issues. I consider it part of the research I put into any software before I put out my honestly earned money.

I love the way some think there is only evil on one side. It's as bad as the people that follow politics, and believe that their party is honest, while the other party is full of corruption.

I'll never understand why people think it's ok for companies to take from the honest because of the dishonest. If a company feels that the only way to take care of the dishonest is to pass the problem along to the honest, then they don't want my business. Making their problems my problems is not what I'm shopping for.

Does anyone remember $30 CDs? Anyone remember when they got rid of single (45RPM) records? How about $500 for Microsoft Word?

I'm not going to tell anyone it is right to copy software or music, but the absolute rage at the music industry for their cleverly calculated theft from consumers in the 1990s has carried into today. If piracy goes on virtually unpunished today it's because there is no political will to stop it - no political will because honest people don't care. Why? Because they see a bunch of crooks getting what they deserve.

Nope, it's not right. Yup, it is stealing. But is it justice? The jury of the public is still out. They will stop it when they have had enough.

Does survival of the fittest mean stealing? Does this mean , if I can't do it myself, I will steal from those who can? We used to hang horse theives!

survival of the fittest means killing a bunch of indians and taking their land.

i bought the smashing pumpkins melancholy and the infinite sadness album for $30... lol i think it was worth it. most of the cds i bought in the 90s were about $20-22, which is a bitch for a kid. now-a-days, they are selling new releases for $7 at target, and you can buy the mp3s for a lot less online.

if only software companies would follow this trend of lowering prices!!! :D

there is software you can buy that will let you copy your software CDs. don't bother with the cracks because they are usually buggy and contain spyware/viruses/etc.

How do technological differences bewteen then and now have anything to do with being a coward and stealing something because it's easy and you "know" you won't get caught. I'll start listening to peoples weak and just plain stupid argument for software piracy when they grow some balls and begin stealing their guitars, amps, keyboards, computers, cars, etc. Until someone, ANYONE, grows those kinds of balls then all the arguments they offer are simply rationalizing them being a coward.

you really like to be judgmental behind the safety of your computer screen. using your very own logic, would you walk up to some punk musician in a bar who likes to pirate software and call them a coward to their face? do you have the BALLS to risk getting your ass handed to you by a pirate? if not, then you probably shouldn't be calling people names in a forum, even if they have a different opinion than you. take a chill pill.
