Hey
First I must say what a pleasure it was to meet Bill and his lovely wife. Bill had a part and was partly instrumental in a life changing experience for me in October of 1982.
About the rack thing. Thats really strange! I do know that there is 2 styles of "rack-rail". One has the tapped holes spaced equally apart, and the other has 2 close together, then one. Later I will see if they fit in the equally spaced rack rail. Nice pics Bill.

I wonder if the panel's are consistent in height ?

Could always file a little , carefull of the filings getting into anything though

We were hoping to ship a lot of boxes today but because of the holiday, the banks are closed and I can't get pymt confirmation, and USPS is closed too.

I am not near these pres right now, but heres a question that came up on another board. Maybe Bill could check.

"Hey, are the High and Low Shelves positionally transposed on the 81 (and the HF shelf unmarked on the 73?)?"

Hey Doc. It appears that the 310 and the 6802 come with two cables. Is this correct? Thanks.

Paul:D

Will you be generating more shipping invoices today even though you can't ship?

Guess I'll be checking the user console during the course of the day!
I've got a wonderful female singer and pianist coming a week from tomorrow to start working on some demo tracks.
It would be great to have a few new pieces of gear to play with by then.

Chance - great meeting you as well!!!!! The rack I'm using is a standard anvil/a&s/etc. type rack with the normal metal rack rails that are drilled and tapped. I believe the same as the type middle atlantic sells.

My guess??? They milled the front panels to perfect spec - maybe just a hair over, and then annodised or painted it thick generating just enough build up that they no longer fit. (Ever had a door fit and close perfect - UNTIL you painted it???) If I had another rack, I'd try it on them, but all my other racks are full right now.

I've probably racked hundreds of pieces of gear over my life and never had a problem like this. Sometimes it's tight, but never this far out.

I guess there's a very minimal chance that this rack's rails were drilled and tapped incorrectly, but I would find that to be one in a million. That stuff if cranked out every day by the hundreds and used by manufacturers all over the world and it's got to be held to pretty tight tolerances. It is a strange problem, but one I can live with and work around. :D:D

That is correct - the power cable from PS to mic and a standard mic XLR type cable. Sweet. The 1200 did not, but it comes with a nice long cable.:D:D

Chance - I think I understand the question, but let me take a shot at it.

the 73 - the High Shelf IS marked but it is in very small print and directly below the knob, so it's not obvious if you're slightly above the unit.

The 81 - I've never used an 81, so I'm not sure what is technically "right" or
"wrong" but this EQ is kind of confusing. At the left you have the HPF and LPF filters. HPF on L and LPF on right - just as I would expect, Then with the individual bands it does seem backwards - HI shelf on the L followed by two bands of peak/dip type EQ with the LF on the far right. Weird....

One note on the 81, that maybe someone can explain to me. On the high band shelf there is a button that is marked "- -" The same buttons on the other bands switch between high and low Q on the mid bands and between peak/dip and shelving on the Low band. Any ideas what "- -" means??

The 84 - these filters are REVERSED from the 81. Very strange. What were they thinking?? Is this how the originals were - I can't remember. Still....clearly marked and unmistakeable if you use your "eyes".

Going from an 81 to an 84 is going to be confusing for a newbie. The layout is a bit strange but definately workable once you've used it.

For instance, sometimes the Freq Select detented knob is closer to the output knob than it is to the boost/cut for that band. Again, some may never have noticed it. But I did. :D :D

I have purchased both of the style rack rails from Middle Atlantis that I described before. I have a Phase Linear 400 amp and pre-amp that was made with the same vertical hole alignment problem.

Hey Chance!! You know what, I just looked at the rack and the holes all look "equidistant". That doesn't sit well with me. Maybe this rack has some kind of weird rails in it. Off to check a different rack now.....

Chance - yup. I think you nailed it. This rack has some weird type of rail in it. Upon first look, it seems fine, but they are just not lining up after awhile. I've never seen anything like it before. Never knew there were two different specs for rail spacing. Learn something every day. Shall I delete my previous thoughts???

Hey Dr. Bill, now that is cleared up, have you had a chance to listen to any of your new toys???
