Just my own preference, but I think there's too much highs on the vocals which gives them some sibilence. That's all I would change.

I know there's gonna be some comments on the snare ;) which I like.
The dynamics created by the raunchy guitar are EXCELLENT...
Nice pads and solid vocals. Love the song, love what you've done with it....

Why the hiatus?

Hi!
Thanx for the comments.
You have great ears.
I think I just got discouraged...
Feeling better now!
Peace.

The vocals are a bit too bright and too wet. I would take everything off and start over. Only thing I would put on there is a splash of reverb or a short cycled delay.

The snare sounds like an 80's drum machine. I know ido said he liked it, and that there would be comments. This is mine. If that is a real kit, I'd take off the reverb off it. I am betting you were going for the 80's sound of the original Cyndi Lauper song, but it's almost annoying.

That's all I have. The musicianship is top notch and tight sounding. It's a decent cover, but the things that I mentioned are bringing it down a bit.

One thing you might try is a key change a step higher with the last chorus. I could almost hear that as the song progressed, and I was almost disappointed when it didn't happen...

Just as a heads up. I liked this song and on first listen, I didn't hear anything that really bugged me or sounded weird, but...

The picture that showed up in iTunes was cute.

I like the snare. The decay is a tick too short for me though.

I like the 80's Petty/Ocasek style vocals and the highly appropriate reverb/echo/chorus. There's this weird almost postchorus occasionally that almost hurts the ears. It's got some weird phasing sound on my iMac. Don't have my monitors hooked up, so I can't really tell what's going on.

I like the mix but the guitars and organ thing could be more defined.

Good job.

Hi,

All that's on the vocals is a splash of reverb and a short delay...

It's a drum machine.
I like how you weren't really sure...

This cover is closer to the original tune done by a band called The Brains, not the Cyndi Lauper cover. It was produced by Steve Lillywhite, and the drums were HUGE!

You have excellent ears!!
Thanx for listening,
Carmen

The picture is me at 8 months old...
All that's on the vocal is a delay (98.6 ms, my body temp, just so I can remember) and slight reverb.
The phasing sound is the dry vocal under the wet not matching as well as they should.
I kinda like it, so I left it.
Nice catch!!

Thanx for taking the time.

I gotta say I really like your voice on these tracks, minus of course that weird chorus/phase thing that sounds like a second vocal occasionally but that seems to be the delay which otherwise complements your voice perfectly.

You've really got a neat voice. It's like you decided "well fuck, I sometimes sound like a cross between Tom Petty and Rik Ocasek anyway so rather than try to sound like them, I'll accept it and do my own thing"

That didn't come out right. I mean you've got a great 80's pop voice.

Ugh...Never mind. I just got out of the emergency room because of some amazing reaction to an otherwise unknown allergy and so my brain is fuzzled with steroids and antihistamines.

Good job.

Vocally more Tom than Rik but also a touch Richard Hell then a bit Bob Dylan in the delivery.
The guitars are Carsish though.
I can hear the attempt at Lillywhite in the drums but his snares were HUGEEEEEE.
The keyboard sounds are really of the era.
well done.
It's nice to remember the songs has origins that pre date Cyndi; though her version was ace.
Is the girl leaves you for a girl scenario really from the original? I don't reacll listening that closely & the lauper one was straight I think.

Hi,
I have never in my life heard a more accurate description of the way my voice sounds.
You didn't just nail the sound, but the attitude as well.
You sir, have golden ears.
Thanx for listening,
Carmen

I had no idea the the people on this board listened so carefully!
The "girl leaves girl" storyline was my own modern twist to the song.
You are the first to notice.
I'm impressed!
Thanx for taking the time,
Carmen
