UAD 2 Announcement

I did see that.

I am guessing your plug-ins would then work for both UAD-1 and UAD-2 ?

I've read lots about it, but that still isn't clear to me.

That kinda sucks. You have to buy a UAD2 by the end of the year to get the free crossgrade for your plugins to the UAD2. So if I decide to buy one next year, I have to pay $25 for each plugin I want to transfer. I already payed for the plugins once!!!

And they still work just as well as the day you bought them, and they still will work just as well next January. What's the problem?

If the UAD-2 stuff is that much better, then they're worth more money. If they're not really that much better, then they're not worth upgrading to the new system and you're just fine with the series 1 stuff. No harm, no foul.

As far as UA not *warning* about UAD-2 coming out, just what do you guys expect? Do you honestly expect them to say, "OK, guys, we have a new model coming out in a couple of months. Stop buying our current product line now, cut off our income revenue, and let our products rot in dealer and warehouse inventories."

Really? Or do you expect them to continue selling a product that, frankly, you were perfectly happy with until 24 hours ago, when just the fact that you read some words made you guys suddenly not like your product any more? And then offer a free cross-grade path (important to notice that even THEY are not calling it an upgrade) for a few months to appease folks in your position? That's exactly what they are doing.

Wait for them to sell out UAD-1 inventories, and for their early-adopter custys to have their UAD-2s. Probably then you'll see new UAD-1-to-2 crossgrade offers reappear.

Now, if only I can get GM to give me a new '09 Impala because I made the mistake of buying the '08 before the '09 came out....

You'll get your chance,I know of one company that is offering trade ins(JRRshop) and plenty of users who are looking to dump their old cards after upgrading.
Check the UA forums for more details.

Your right of course, they don't want people to stop buying the UAD-1, and cut off their income.

I'm upset because I had a gut feeling I should have waited for the UAD-2, as I had heard alot of buzz about it in various forums, and I had a feeling it was right around the corner.

Despite offering a temporary free transfer of your plug-ins, I feel the plug-in transfer charges are a money grab. It costs them nothing per plug-in to authorize your plugin's to the 2 card.

But you are also right in that - my UAD-1 card works just as well as it did before I knew of the annoucement. I just don't want to feel left behind. :D

Not all UAD-1 plugs will be ported to the UAD-2. Best to keep the UAD-1 as well for the old mixes.

Cheers

To further clarify my statement, Whilst not all plugs have yet been ported, all but Nigel will be ported in the future. Nigel has been discontinued on the UAD-2.

Me either. I could never get a sound I like out of it.
