This gets posted a lot, but it is in fact a photo shop job. If you look, you can see that there was another microphone hanging down to get one of the speakers in the cab. It's a microphone setup the engineer keeps permanently setup, usually for use with full stacks where the mic hanging down gets the bottom cab, and the 421 up top there gets the top cab.

I can't remember the engineer who this belongs to, but he does in fact know more about recording guitars than almost any three people who post on this board.

photoshop? not that I don't believe it... but next time I want to take a picture of a penguin, I take a picture of a crow and photoshop it... if you know what I mean :p.

uh..oh..
Dude you're a bag of fun..:p

That picture has been posted here at least three times in the past. And at least as many on other forums I frequent. I'm more than a little past being amused by it, and well into the being bored by it.

Slipperman over on The Womb, maybe?

Yeah, there is sort of a shadow from what looks to be a LDC in front of the Marshall cab...

Nope, someone else. I just don't remember who.

Hold on a second.

Ah yes, here it is....Andy Sneap (Producer/Engineer- Megadeth, Killswitch Engage, Opeth, etc. - metal guy)

Hahahaha, in the metal world, there's a lot of guys who worship the ground he walks on. I knew him mostly for his work with Nevermore... He's not exactly my style, but the man is certainly more talented than 99% of the people who are laughing at this picture.

But all those purists who say that the tube sound makes a huge difference to the overall tone may be right.

Isn't that what he's picking up there?
The tube sound?
