anyone ever seen this 990???

Nope that's new to me...and I've got a couple of the "More-Famous-Non-Ribbon-MXL-990's"...
 
I used to have one.....I never liked it on anything so I sold it to a memeber here several years ago....I would be interrested in trying one of these ribbon models though....maybe it will be a stupid deal some time soon.....

Yeah--I've got 4 990's that I don't like on anything.

Don't ask. Long story.

Good idea. He can put all 4 of them in a carefully arranged quadraphonic setup, then record from a nearby bathroom with a closed door and running water, then mix it all down to mono using his boombox to master it.

Even then I'll bet the 990's would improve his sound.
 
I bought one of these a few years back because it came with a free pop filter (I wanted the pop filter). Never used the mic. I've seen somewhere here a mod for this mic though.

Oh yeah, it will be interesting to hear a review of the new "ribbon" version.

Naw! This is the regular ol', runna-the mill, nuttin' spashel, average, everyday plain ol' 9 hunnert an 90 that nawbody likes. :D That's why I was hoping to mod it a bit. I'd like to hear what the ribbon sounds like though.

well...lots of views but seems that no one has any reviews on this mic.....

I just noticed in the ad that they recommend NO PHANTOM POWER. Is that common for ribbon mics? I know phantom isnt necessary for dynamics but to my knowledge, it doesnt harm them either.....the ad for this mic says that phantom power could "cause the mic to be unusable"....
