What is a good headphone to check mixes with? I want to try this because sometimes I hear noise coming out of my computer so I want a good headphone with a tight close around the ears to reduce or eliminate the computer noise.

I know it's not as good as a good pair of monitors but I have no other ways of checking besides in the car.

I've heard some great reviews on the Beyerdynamics. Is that good for checking mixes with?

Thanks for all replies.

I have the AKG 240's.

I bought them, as I was told they are some what of an industry standard in headphone's for mixing.

I like them, and use them to kind of "micro-scope" different things, such as, reverb tails on the end of vocals, and to of course, have a listen without any of my "room" problems getting in the way.

I think the 240's may now be discontinued though.

Grado -- SR225's are wonderful and very budget-friendly.

Not very comfortable for the long haul - Which is good, because you should (as mentioned) *check* your mixes on phones - not *mix* on phones.

Massive, you think Grado's are good for checking mixes? I've always been a huge fan of Grado headphones, but always felt they had a specific "character" to them. I've always preferred to check my mixes on a flatter headphone like a upper-end Sennheiser (580/600 or 650) or AKG (601 or 701).

I have a pair of the older akg k240df's and they work pretty well. Very detailed and pretty easy on the ears. Not loud phones though, you really could not use them for setup.

F.S.

I always throw in my vote for the AKG 240's. I like em so much I got two of em! They arent the BEST but they're damn good for $99.
