Your fav brand of instrument cables?

I've FINALLY worn out a five metre Proel cable. It's lasted me 18 months, I think that's the longest I've ever gotten from a cable. It'll still sound okay between my pedals and amp but it can't stand up to being moved around in the instrument. I'm gonna see if I can get a few more this weekend.

What brands are you guys partial to?
 
I have a ProCo MusicMover that's been my main cable between my guitar and amp for about 17 years now. Its longevity speaks for itself.

Lately though, I've been buying Horizon cable from Musician's Friend. Its middle-of-the-road cable that's good enough for my applications at home yet cheap enough to buy without grimacing during checkout. So my pedal couplers and I/O from my mixer to/from my computer interface is all Horizon cable.

But take into consideration that I'm not one of those neurotic cable-o-philes that spends $100 on 18.5 ft. of instrument cable. If it carries a signal from my guitar to my amp and doesn't go intermittent, and then its a good cable in my book. I don't sing the praises of premium instrument cable.
 
Buy good cable and connectors and make your own. I have some that I've gigged regular for 10 years.

I agree with you 100% . I have built my own for about 20 years and rarely have any problems-mostly it's store bought mic cables that give trouble but they are a simple repair too!
I have some brass 1/4" jacks from years ago and they are almost indestructible-much better than any steel jacks that are used now by a long shot. None of these brass plugs have ever broken or shorted out!

i've had a rodam pro series 13 ft cable for five years and it hasn't broken yet. but then again i don't gig, but i am not a pussy cat to my stuff.
 
ProCo, Rapco, whatever. There are a lot of fine cables out there. Don't stress too much about it, just get something with good cable and good ends.

That being said, I do like my Spectraflex cable for my guitars. It doesn't sound any better, but it is more robust, and I think it looks cool.

and there are some really really cool connectors out there you can use if you're into that.
 
I've been wanting to make my own cables for awhile now, since I'm not really into paying $50 for what I could make for much less. What's a good place to buy cabling/connectors (both instrument and mic connectors)?
 
They're plain looking but Rapco cables are as reliable and long lasting as any (and a lot cheaper than some other brands.) I've got a couple that have survived over 20 years of use and abuse.
 
What's a good source for bulk instrument cable? (I really like the stuff with the cloth braiding on the outside.)
 
18 months, thats it?? I have 4 Planet Waves cables that I've gigged out with in my guitar rig for years, not a single one has gone bad.. They get stepped on, gear rolled over em, beer spilled on em, pinched under chair legs, etc.. They're all nicked to shit but they still work perfectly. And they're cheaper than Monsters, which I also never had a problem with, but they dont get abused like the PW's..

I have no idea what is available your side of the pond but here in the UK just check out the better cable that Maplin supply and I've always used Neutrik connectors because I have a supplier that lets me have them at a good price. While your at it buy connectors and cable for you mics and PA and make them all at the same time. With the money you save buy yourself something useful.
