Bedroom treatment

I do my recording and mixing in my bedroom, and its currently totally untreated. Its quite a big room, with nothing at all on the walls atm. Theres a double bed and a sofa, curtains are always drawn.

Desk with monitors on is against the wall and one of them is in a corner, not ideal i know but it cant be helped, cant put a desk in the middle of a bedroom.

Can anyone suggest a starting point? It was thinking of some form of hanging treatment, hoping i could hang some nice looking material over some absorbant foam to tame high/mids? As for bass im not sure where to start. Dont have any corners i can put traps in.

I'm mixing on some M-Audio BX5's. I've thought about a sub, but decided it'd probably be more trouble than its worth in an untreated bedroom...
 
Always start with the low end. All the time, every time, no exceptions, every single time, no question, etc., etc., etc., etc.

All but the most severe high end issues are pretty much tempered by the low end treatment anyway. You can't use "too much" broadband treatment -- But you can very (VERY) easily throw a room completely out-of-whack with a foam party.

Lol, foam party. Thanks very much for the response, i'll have a good look through this article.

If its something thats to be done gradually, would the benefit be greater if bass traps were placed CLOSER to the monitors. The room is a good 10m long and my desk is at one end of it.
 
What I did was put a bass trap in the corners to the left and right of my mixing desk and then behind my desk, on the back wall, where the ceiling and wall joined and in another place that was because my room needed it. (I have an odd shaped room) I know you said that corners would be a problem but that seems to be where bass frequencys build up.
