hi guys . . just wondering what is the max length you can have your midi cables at . I have to run the cable from 1 room to the other and the length i need is about 40 to 50 ft . can midi cables be that long . i know i can by a cupling and connect them but don't want to have any joinings .

also, instead of using an adaptor and joining 2 20ft cables , i was thinking of making my own 50ft cable using the network data cable and putting connectors at both the ends . can you use network cables using only 5 wires from there with connectors at the end instead of the actual midi able .

will that work .

thanks

The spec is 50ft but it really depends on the devices involved. I would look for an old JL cooper midi repeater on ebay, they pop up fairly frequently

um, 15m = 50 ft

You didn't put the m.i.d.i standard though.
You can transmit m.i.d.i. over a LAN connection from one computer to another increasing the distance that m.i.d.i. is transmitted
