me again ,,, small room

Last time I asked about a really small vocal booth, people told me to not record vocals on a small room because it's gonna sound small,,, I wonder if it happens the same with mixing??

I can't place acoustic foam in my walls, also I have to deal with PC noise, doors noise, people walking around while I'm trying to mix noise ,, etc. ,, then yesterday I saw this when I was walking around

A yamaha woody box and yamaha avitex myroom,, that I can't afford,, but I think I can make it on my own (well,, sort of),, the main purpose now is not recording vocals or anything,,, but doing the mixing in a quiet environment,,,,, the measures I'm planning are (WxDxH) 120cm x 140cm x 200cm,,, have anyone done this before? (i doubt it, but as the rolling stones mobile studio wasn't big either I thought I have a chance on this,, maybe :o )

its all about translation. if you can learn to mix in a small room and it translates reliably, then you're good. chances of that happening are very slim unless your main audience are people in small rooms with small speakers.
 
i doubt it, but as the rolling stones mobile studio wasn't big either I thought I have a chance on this,, maybe

I don't think the Stones performed IN the mobile studio. It was probably only the control room. And chances are, there were LOTS of absorption.

:eek: NO ABSORPTION? Hmmmm, in that case...what gullfo said...or worse. WHY can't you hang foam absorbers?:confused: There are plenty of ways of doing this simple chore WITHOUT damaging anything?

nah, I don't want to spend too much money on absorption,,, and also I have people walking around all the time and its really hard to mix. so I want a room isolated from the rest of the world:p

Whatever,, I think in Japan you have to be a millionaire to have a good room only for mixing

Let me see if I have this straight. You want to mix in a quiet environment...and you need it isolated from the space you are in now...which is already small...so that means a booth...which you want to build yourself because you can't afford the yamahathingy...and you are wondering if:

A.

Yes. Many. But they usually line the booth with absorption. Thats WHY "I" told you to use absorption. I assumed you were talking about building a booth, and I figured since YOU are building it, YOU could hang absorption panels. But then you said...

BTW, how are you going to hear comb filtering on the recording from the room the music was recorded in if it is longer than the combfiltering in the booth?:confused:;)

yeah, so it help to have absorption even in a small room,, maybe I wouldn't mind doing it,, since its a small booth won't cost me as much as treating my whole room,,,, gotta think about it since I'm moving next month,,,

don't need it,, haha,, everyone here in Japan is used to live in match boxes
 
you can't get much smaller than headphones ,nice and quiet and peaceful

well as quiet as your volume dial and cheaper than a booth:D

I'd have to agree with this... For the price, you can't go wrong with headphones if you're considering building such a small booth.

Im kind of a diffcult guy :D ,,, maybe the k271 has bigger earpads :p
