Hey all

lol this is my first post but ive actually been viewing this forum for quite a while, lol bit like a stalker. but any way, to the point. i am starting up a studio under my house (which is pretty much on stilts, well concrete posts) i am going to brick a area under the house which will be 7m x 3m and will have two rooms, one room being 3m x 3m and the other 5m x 3m. the 3m will be the recording room and the larger one will be the control room with a bed and lounge and television.

well here is the question, i feel so ashamed to ask because of its simplicity but i cant find out anywhere lol. what will i need to get to do 8 track acoustic recording onto a computer.

and if anyone can give me some advice on the room and such please do! :D

The best advice around--- avoid square rooms for recording. The sonic properties of square rooms are not ideal for recording, mixing or mastering. If you must use a square room, you will need to treat the room heavily in order to get a decent sound.

Wow how will you fit a 3x3 and 5x3 room into a 7x3 contruction? :p

Yeah keep away from square rooms.

hey ha ha ha sorry about that, i meant 3x3 and 4x3. but ive changd my mind lol ive decided to have the sound proof room as 2.5x3 and the control room 4.5x3

lol the making of it should be right, im going to make sure its not square :D

but its the recording equipment im kind of worried about lol at the moment im planning on getting the alesis iO|26 ( http://www.alesis.com/io26 )

and ive got some mics that a friend recommended lol cant remember the exact make at the moment sorry, will get back to you with it

but what would you guys recommend for a situation like mine? lol i will be doing mainly 2 or 4 channel recording but am looking for a decent drum kit so im looking for an 8 channel :D

Don't chop it up. I'd recommend one large room.
I've been in a project studio approx 9m X 9m and it was still a little cramped
with a full drum set, and all the other paraphernalia you end up using.
Plus, you only have to concern yourself with acoustic treatment, soundproofing, hvac, etc in one space, not two.
my two cents, your mileage may vary.

Where are you located - country? State (if in the US)

And if you are in the US - your house isn't located in a flood plain is it? Where surge is possible (close to he ocean?)

Code requirements in the US in those locations are the reason the houses are built on stilts - and it may not be as simple as just doing it if you intend to pull a permit (or if you don't you might suffer a lot down the road).

lol i live in Australia (Townsville, Queensland) which is close to the top of Aus on the east coast

and just about every other house in my street is one story lol so its not that that is the problem

im still fine tuning the plans for it, will post drawings when finished :D
