Nice

Ok, I'll bite. I'm glad this thread is finally taking off.

DAS19, thanks for finally posting that link. I very much like your guitar tone. I know this sounds weird, but there's something cool about the way you pronounce each word _really_ clearly. I remember thinking the same thing about Trent Reznor way back when I first heard NIN. Kind of a nice departure from the usual voices you hear on the radio.

Undrgrnd studio -- I like what you've got posted. My favorite so far is "break of dawn." Very nice the way the electric guitars come in, after the acoustic part, and I am very much liking the dual-lead thing about 5 minutes in.

Comments coming for the other folks, too; it's just taking me a while to listen to all this. Already I can say, though, that most of you make much clearer-sounding recordings than I do.

I haven't gotten anything recorded in a few months, but I have some of my most recent stuff posted at

http://whatstudios.net/Dan/wttef.html

if you want to take a look. I think "vertical asymptotes" is the one I've gotten the most postive feedback on.

This was really fun to listen to. I love your explanations for listening that you post on your web sight. I know what cha mean. Very cool.

Sorry to keep posting links to the same song; just never sure if anybody could see it in its usual location. See if this one works:

This is so cool – it is like Buckwneat Zidaco met some Arab dude in a reverb room. The rhythm is like one of those old trad jazz funeral bands that you think is about to go dreadfully out of time, but miraculously stays on the pulse. This is a really original and melodic sound – I love the lyric about ‘the tissues in the sink’ it is so evocative.

I’m so glad the link is no longer forbidden – but this track is never the less teasingly exciting – can we hear more please.

Here's a song I wrote recently. Critiques..are welcomed! :)

It's at lifedemo.com and it's the one entitled "She doesn't love you anymore"

Really good melody, like ‘coming of age’ narrative. I’m not sure about the repeating the lyrics of the verse – I want hear what happens after she cuts him out of his life. The “peter at the agency’ line doesn’t work for me – you going with a nice ‘Jack and Diane’ vibe but the over description on the agency guy seems a bit redundant and soap operish. I’m more interested in how the jilted lover feels about the betrayal – the significance is her betrayal, loss of innocence not the name and address of the guy she did it with.

I am not sure how close this song is to you or if you see it all very cinematographically, but there is a very interesting edgy subjectivity (e.g. sex in the shower) to the work which your vocals seem to enhance.

I’m with Chilli on the strumming, musically every thing is tight (nice lead work and tone) but you have panned the ac. G so far left and right and up the levels, that the centre sounds hollow, further back and disconnected and you don’t want that with the vocals in this song I don’t think

Thanks for the kind word. That line is actually "dishes," not "tissues," but the idea's the same I guess. It's about how my life tends to spiral out of control when I'm not paying attention. And gladly; see

Thanks for listening. I'm a few steps off the beaten path, so it's always good to hear from somebody of like mind.

We just released this new stuff with our rock trio.

The band was recorded with six mics.

Vocals with a 1976 Sennheiser MD 421.

On a TASCAM 424 mkii.

I agree with geewizu2 -- Kudos to getting this done on a 424; I use the same machine, but you're getting a way tighter / cleaner sound than I usually can. Cool sound, too; I like the 70's rock vibe that I'm getting from this.

Probably want to post a direct link because its much easier for people and much more likely to get commented on.

I've just remembered to come back to this section & am amazed at the quality & quantity.
I'll have to set aside some time next weekend to sit & trawl my way through from front to back.
Not a lot of these have come through the MP3 Mixing Clinic - it's a good place to discuss & get mixing ideas as well as some song craft pointers as many there write, play & produce their own.
DAS19 - good idea that's fruiting well.
And Jimmy Little, except for Royal Telephone - is a legend, albiet a legend with someone elses kidney!
Tissues in the sink is a great mishear.
My personal fav mishear was Downhearted - broken rhythm never really started which was my mishearing of Down hearted - broken dreams that never really start. If you knew the singer -james Reyne of Australian Crawl - you'd know he's the world's best source for such mishearing - a true, but elegant, word mangler!

My Favorite is probaly "Love Is Risky".

Love is Risky - This was really well done with a great hook.

great sound - love the Lou Reed laid back vocal delivery it counterpoints the dynamics of the frenzy of the guitar - sometimes the rythm section drifts out a bit, but it usually gets back in a few bars, but hey it is a rough.

I'd love to hear some of this stuff fully produced as I think these songs deserve it.

Good luck with it

Burt

I agree! The vocals are so far out front, but I doubt this was a finished project. Totally rockin!

hey check out our song called "where i long to go" at

www.myspace.com/ringert

thanks alot!

Where I long to go

Great spatial reverb in opening Vs. and love the slide licks throughout, perhaps break is a bit long as the second half doesn’t really add anything. Great when it kicks off in Ch. Very good dynamics

Cut the Cords

There is something reminiscently ‘classical’ about this progression – I can’t put my finger on it. Really like all the variation, but not sure of the chorded section prior to lead work – I’d cut straight to the break and save the chord build for live performances as I think it actually dissipates the energy you have created that would then be built upon by the guitar.

What people do

Very evocative arpeggio and vocals that really captures the mood elegently

Great collection of material showing diversity of energy, but still with a strong identity and continuity. Your chops are all tight and the production shines. Enjoyed much.

There is just so much going on here. What is the stringed instrument you are using a Bazuki? Are these samples or recorded? It is epic in design and definitely transports me away somewhere – Perhaps Morocco with a Marshal stack! Like the first track I am so impressed that despite sounding like 4 musicians playing four different songs the work is unified by the tightness of the rhythm section. Cool Sound

Scrapiron Peacocks

I love the hi-hat panned right which comes in and out – sounds like an sprinkler on a field tracking back to start another pass. Amazing lead work – it like a hard-core funk lead guitarist and drummer have turned up to jam with some ‘good old’ C&W boys and it all works really well. Can not hear vocals though, but I love the melody line as it meanders over the frenetic arrangement.

Great stuff

Wow, I never received such empowering comment. I do agree with for most of the part you mentioned. My home recording experience is still along way to go as well as my lyrics. Yes. My master of the English language is somewhat simple..he he. Thanks a million mate. Will definitely work on that area in future.

Yeah, wanted to do that but the forum system did not allow since I'm 'brand new'.. (sigh)

Hey Kay, Nice song, really nice song. well played and sung. The strummed guitar is just a little strong and prevents the words from being clearly heard. I didn't hear any distracting background noises. I was just diggin the tune.

Cheers,

Hey Chilli. Thanks for even dropping by to the site. Appreciate your comments. Doing recording all by yourself is sure fun and hard work. I am still in the learning process and yeah, there's still so much room for improvements. Hey, that's what these forums are for anyway. Thanks again. Cheers!
