I just got this email from Tapes.com I thought I should post.
HI- we now have in stock atr magnetics master reel to reel tapes in 1/2" and 1"
sizes- 2" and 1/4" will be available mid February- on the website
www.tapes.com

You know they really should mail out a free test roll of the stuff to people who sign up for their mailing list. I wouldnt mind trying 1/2" or 1/4". But I wouldnt buy it unless i knew it was good...

It's expensive. $89 for 1/2"!

wow, the quantegy is only like $45, should I jump on some of that?

Pancakes is how I used to buy all my tape. Once you are used to handling them they really aren't that bad.

I have a silly question about pancakes. How DO you transport them to a metal reel? On the deck itself in rewind mode?

Thanks,
Randal

The easiest way is to set up the pancake and the empty reel on the deck and record whatever you wanted on the tape. Once it's done, Viola!, you have a full reel of tape! You could just ffwd/rewind the pancake onto the reel as well if you wish.

I buy a metal spool, take the flanges off and screw them onto the hub of the pancake.

That too.:D But at that rate, one might as well just buy a new metal reel with tape on it.;)
