Paranoid about PHASE

Would you consider the room I am working in big ?

I see what you mean from your floor plan.... did you ever end up completing that project?

Or you can phase align later, manually. Look at the problem tracks and you'll see that as one's voltage increases (the waveform goes up from 0), it won't match the other. Just slide one of them over so that it matches up at the start of the waveform and you'll be in better phase than you were before. Of course, the entire waveform won't be perfectly in phase, but the beginning is the attack. If the attack is in phase, it should sound "punchier" or "tighter". If you need, I can get pics up for you in the morning to show you what I mean.

Does anybody here use Elemental Audio InspectorXL to visually look for phase problems ?

once in a while, you can purposefully have 2 different mics on something, purposefully out of phase.

one is your "main source" (per say) and the other you mix in just the amount you want to get the desired change in sound.
not something you'll use every day, but it can be good.

those kinds of plugins are used on stereo tracks. They tell you the phase relationship of the L/R channels.

So if I used it across the master bus, I'd be able to spot phase problems right ?

I am mostly done with it. Did you read the whole thread? I have to finish the back wall still, but as of yesterday, i just have to add the lights and trim to the back wall and it will be 100% done.

And, yes, 24 feet is a pretty big room by HRBBS standards.

ah! you got me
you are right. placed on the master bus they would be able to. Sorry, I have Inspector and because of the age of my system I'm not allowed to place it on the master bus, so I kind of forgot about that. Thanks for correcting me ;)

Okay cool Benny, I'll check it out, I think it's $20 or somthing like that to buy.

What system do you use ?

Yes, there is a whole thread, sorry, I only posted a link to the layout diagram. I ended up with a temporary back wall of portable gobos I made - until this week. I built thw back wall in three pieces, and now just need to trim it out, add lights, and stain the wood. Then I'll be 100% done! Whoo Hoo! :D :D :D :D :D

nah, don't buy it. They have a free version that has everything you need:

(I have the original versions, when they were Elemental Audio...and cheaper...before Roger Nichols bought 'em out, lol)

I run an older Pro Tools TDM setup. The RN/EA plugs are RTAS, and my version of PT is before the ability to allow RTAS plugs on Auxes and the Master Faders. *Hopefully* will be upgrading within the year to an HD2 system and the latest PT version...which will allow me to run my RTAS plugs on the master fader.
:o
