I need some help with powering foldbacks.

i was thinking of getting some passive foldback speakers, can get a good deal, then rememberd you need a power amp or something to power them. I found a Behringer ULTRA-DI PRO DI800 and i was wondering if that would do the trick.

will need to power up 5 foldback speakers, if the above tool wont work what would you guys suggest. Thanks

can someone please help me? or just tell me the best way to hook up 5 foldback passive speakers and to get power to them so i can get a different mix into each fold back thanks.

Lots of bad news for you. First, the Behringer ULTRA-DI PRO DI800 is not even an amp. You need a beefy power amplifier to power a speaker. More bad news. If you want five different monitor mixes, you need five power amps to power those five speakers. And what's more, you'd need a mixer with at least five aux sends to make those five different mixes.

thanks for the reply. Thanks for telling me that before i went out and spent my money. i have a mixer with 6 aux sends, so i guess its best to get powered foldbacks then. i think that would be a cheaper alternative then to buying a power amp for each individal foldback. Thanks mate

ummm... no... you dont need five power amps to power five speakers.
You would need three power amps to do the job.
each power amp has two channels and each of those channels would power a speaker, so you could use all 6 channels of your auxs.
Now, are you in a studio situation, or live sound? If in a studio situation you would be much better suited to get as 8 channel headphone amp and the required number of headphones.
If live sound, then the foldbacks would be the way to go.

ummm...yes...he would. The question he asked is "can someone please help me? or just tell me the best way to hook up 5 foldback passive speakers and to get power to them so i can get a different mix into each fold back thanks."
That's five DIFFERENT mixes to five DIFFERENT speakers. That equils FIVE amps.

I dont know where you buy your amps, or what kind you use, but all my amps have two, count um 2 channels, and each channel can handle a seperate mix, now using simple math if he has 5 mixes going to five speakers that would suggest mono, therefore if he has 3 amps each with 2 channels then we can see that 5 divided by 2 equals 2.5 amps required, so since its hard to buy that half amp he would only need three amps.

it will be for live set up. thanks for all your help guys, i know power amps can be expensive so im still trying to figure out wich way to go passive or powered foldbacks.

if you already have passive speakers.... then thats the way to go... getiing amps.
powered speakers are very expensive... and if one fails... repair is not cheap either.
a decent power amp, and decent passive speakers is better and cheaper in the long run, because if your needs change down the road... the seperate components are usable in other situations.

A two channel amp = two power amps...

So yeah, he needs three rack units (assuming each one is a two channel amp), but he still needs five amps.

You want to argue semantics. I stand by my CORRECT answer.

no... your answer blows it what it does. go on down to your local music store... tell them you would like to buy two power amps and see what they give you.
I am fully aware of how an amp works. I know there are two CHANNELS in a regular stereo power amp. But industry standard refers to a stereo power amp in singular form. So, with that being said, He needs Three power amps to do the job.
Go ahead... jump onto musiciansfriend, order five power amps.... see what they send you.
Your trying to be a smartass, and somehow come up looking like a dumbass.
your trying to confuse an obvious new guy with your fancy talk, and you will be missleading him, shame on you.

Fuck you very much. Take over Mr Know-it-all. I'm out.
