Hey Lee!

Very very very nice mixes. There is a nice fullness of the mixes that encompasses the entire frequency spectrum that is very pleasing to the ears. Based on the style, I think you've done a fine job: the guitars and bass are SOLID, synth has a good fit and the vox sit well, too. Although, their is a minute bit of silibance in the vox on the first track.

The only thing that catches my attention (and this maybe a Soundclick problem) are the drums. I like them, but as we all know, drums are tricky. The cymbals are probably my biggest concern. They seem thin and tucked away. I think they could benefit the tracks to another level by supporting the ambience of the tracks; adding definition, air and dimension to the mix.

Thats it! Much respect!

Dark Horse: uploaded prepro track

I just uploaded a song called "Dark Horse" that I figured I could get some feedback on. Mixwise it's nothing special, so I suppose it just more of an asthetic thing I'm looking for.

Dark Horse

Cymbals could come up.
Close mics on the drums could come down.
Guitrs could be a tad brighter.

The rest is good.

I like the songs. The recordings are very complete sounding to me. The performances are very tight and consistent. The vocals strike me as a little strange. I'm not sure if it's something about the recording or if it's just the voice. Dont get me wrong the voice is good but just caught me a little off guard on first listen. The cymbals are way back it seems. Everything else seems really tight. Very well done. Mind telling me what you tracked with?

on this one I went with a basic home setup. I used an 002 rack with a mackie VLZ board for the additional 4 pres. I appreciate the responses

Dark Horse sounds really good - are there cymbals in there?
Lyrically it's an oddity - a particular contrast to the music.
I like the b/vox/countermelody bits.
The solo doesn't let fly - very controlled - perhaps too controlled as the whole song is restrained.

Dead Before Dawn - nice intro almost early Devo in the combo of keys & staggering riff.
That build up is effective. You seem to work with quite literary bands - is that choice or coincidence?
The only thing I didn't like is the Lincoln Park chant.
Top work as usual Lee.

very solid insight Ray. I always appreciate you taking the time to do that. :)

I really do think the cymbals are too soft, which if we go into a good studio for this, we can address. These cymbals where actually cracked, so I was afraid too much of the "thrash" would distract from the rest. But perhaps not.

you know, honestly I think I attribute it to a bit of ADD. I do put alot of myself on there.
