This is a rough recording I made last night, mainly just practicing and trying to learn the song. I think there are some wrong chord changes and in fact, I think the majority of it is wrong. :D

I want to do a full recording of it but it's kind of boring without vocals, anyone up to singing if I can upload a full/correct version?

(Excuse the hiss, but I actually don't mind it that much on this song).

Sounds pretty close to the original from what I remember. I can't hear the hiss over the hiss generated automatically by the DELL laptop I use .

I like the stereo image you have on this - panned just right for me. The solitary guitar is slightly to one side then the other guitar comes in nicely on the other....

The mic seems to be in just the right spot. The guitar(s) sound clear and not distant, bass is there but not booming.

Great playing and recording Danny.....

Thanks ido. You always leave nice feedback. :D

It definitely needs something else during the last 2? minutes of the song so I may add some guitar or something in there.

Anyway, thanks again.

I like the recorded sound, and the stereo positioning is good. What mic(s), etc. did you use, and how were they positioned?

It sounds like you might be recording the main guitar line too hot -- seems like there's some clipping going on when you hammer from the A to B on the A string - soaking something in the chain (maybe on my side :) ). If so, it would also reduce the hiss some if you track it lower.

Wish I could say I would sing the part (wish my singing voice were here - actually, we've never met :D )

Thanks anitchef. No clipping on the recorded tracks, I actually had my gain down too low :p I was only averaging around -20db. I normalized the mix before converting to MP3 but I don't think it clipped.

I used the Naiant MSH-1 mics on this one for both guitars, about 10" from the neckjoint and used a little GlaceVerb on the master buss.

Thanks for checking it out.

clipping must be on my side, then -- I'll root it out. I should know by now which guitar(s) you used for this, but I can't remember what you usually play - what is it again?

this is really really good danny. the playing is spot on for a start which always helps to get a really good mix. i would suggest that sometimes the low end is quite boomy when the two guitars come together.......maybe roll off the lower end on the solo guitar at about 150-250Hz? Such a lovely pure tone you've got though, really impressed with the micing and capture of the acoustics. i would love to record vocals for this, it's one of my favourite songs. have a listen to some of the vocals i've done on these two tracks to see if you fancy it.......

A Cort Acoustic/Electric, Earth NS10E something-or-other. :p

Thanks schis, I'll check out those songs as soon as I'm near some speakers. ;)

A couple questions...

Just want some opinions on this...

Do you think in the next version I should give the intro guitar a lo-fi sound at the beginning like the original?

And on the original, the first guitar solo, the guitar has a really weird, but cool sound. How did they get it to sound like this?

This recording and playing is very nice. The sound capture is very nice on the acoustics.

YES! :D

I did a cover of this last year and used some kind of lo-fi plugin to get the AM radio sound, but I always wanted to redo it and actually play the track through a cheap radio and record it again that way.

I always start these projects but I'm too A.D.D. to stick at them long enough before I get tired and move on to something else. :)

Thanks, I'm in the process of recording a whole arrangement with piano and drums, then I'm going to ask schis if he still wants to do the vocals for it.

hey danny. nice take, and good sounds. dont want to step on dudes toes, but i would like to try vocals too. any chance i could at least get a nice .wav of the instrumental? i am no barbara streisand. thank dog.

Of course, once the instrumental is done (it's almost done) I'll be posting it up here for anyone to do vocals on it. You can do vocals on this one too but I'm pretty sure the arrangement isn't correct so it might be kind of hard. :D

Anyway, I'll have the full arrangement up in the next couple of days. :)

Nice take Danny. I don't know that the lo-fi beginning is necessary. I never really cared for that part actually. When we used to play this live, we just played that section the same as the rest of the song. May be blasphemy, but there it is.

As to the effect they used on the first guitar solo, I'll have to listen to the song again and get back. I always thought it was just a very clean acoustic guitar. The middle and end solo has Gilmore singing along.

Sounds nice Danny. Good playing. This is one of the few PF songs I can listen to without wanting to kill someone. :D

Thanks, Greg. Hope you'll listen to the full song once I get it finished. :)

I think the guitar sounds really good....nice job on that. Nice playing. I'm not a huge Floyd fan, but do really like this one. I think you are on your way to a good version.
