I'm still reading & reading & reading and hope the thread will never end! :)

Harvey -- if you want to make a decent PDF version with clickable links and without lots of the rubbish (style-wise), I volunteer to edit it and convert it into a "pdf book". I might take a while, but its absolutly worth every effort. I am working with a professional book layout software on a day-to-day basis, so its relatively easy for me to do. Even though the number of online pages seems large, the final pdf file will be small and easy to download.

ahhhh -- just noticed that it's already been done by someone else. Perfect!

Embarassed to realize that it was still being added to! I will go back an read it some more. I will admit that it has reached the size where a table of contents and bookmarks would be more than a little usefull.

Maybe a clean up would help. Get rid of all the posts saying "Gee this is the best thread ever" and just leave the meat? But I use the thread all the time as a reference. It is tough to find stuff from time to time so I often times use one of the PDF or Word versions I have found floating around so I can use Find to search the document.

I'd love to do a cleanup, but I don't have access to making any changes to the thread. There are some better links, some info that needs to be changed, and a general update wouldn't hurt. Fortunately, I tried to not make it too microphone specific, so most of the info is still good. And there are some other threads that could be included in the big thread, or at least some links provided.

I read it every once in awhile, and (more importantly) post links to it for new people. Gives me a warm fuzzy to turn people on to it.

Could not sit here and not add my thanks to Harvey! I hope the thread is always available....because I haven't read it all yet!!!

I only started coming here on a regular basis about a week ago, and I read most of it. It's something I would go back and refer to if I was ever going to shop for a mic or just to refresh my memory once in a while. Why get rid of it? It's an incredible reference. Thanx.

There are Sticky threads, and then there is the Epoxy thread.....only when they knock down the walls of this cyber institution should that thread go away. Thanks for giving this gift to everyone.

This thread is one reason I'm glad to be here

I stumbled onto this place by following a trail of links that I believe may have started with something I found in the Home Recording for Musicians for Dummies book. The Harvey Gerst thread was worth the trip all by itself. Reading it has saved me from asking many many questions. So far, I haven't needed to ask any questions at all, because it seems that other people are asking them for me. That's why I think this is only my second post or so. I'm sure that I will have questions in the future, but right now I don't know enough to ask intelligent ones.

Thanks Harvey and everyone else!

Jeff

I love it, haven't used it much lately but man it was the greatest thing when i first found it.

I'd just like to make one comment.
It would be nice if it was easier to get through. For instance if i want to look something up in there it is a chore to find anything. If someone could take the lessons and post them in adobe or some other format for reference that would be awesome.

I read through it a loing time ago, and recently really rediscovered it and reread it failthfully. Unfortunately i did not come accross the several great jobs of compiling the whole thing into one page until i had real throug al the other pages.

It is a great resource, but a little beyond the true newbie, much more effective for me once i learned a bit more to put it in perspective. Definately would work to direct all the newbie questions to, if you were able to cite spoecfic info, most newbs aren't going to want to read 50 pages to get to one piece of info they want at that point.

Thanks much for all that knwoledtge Harvey.

The problem is that I can't edit that thread, so there's no way to tell people at the start that there's a compiled version till you get near the end.

Perhaps Dragon will step in and make some adjustments.

I would imagine that a big part of the problem with the persistence of very simple questions is the fact that a lot of people joining the board are looking for a quick fix to that "pro studio sound", and aren't interested in reading a lot, sadly enough.

Its a great resource though, and anyone who sticks around for more than two weeks would of course be best served to read it. Getting all the actual information into one document linked at the beginning of the thread would definitely be helpful, of course... not that anyone is to blame for it not being there, all the parties involved are busy with actual lives and the whatnot :D

I've been doing the home hobbyist recording thing for a couple years now. And that thread was an absolute gold mine for me.
