It's probably because of the spaces in the filename. But I thought that was fixed...
NL5, $bar = ereg_replace("\s", "_", $foobar);
;)

The first thing that stands out is how smooth the distorted guitar is, good job. The drums seem a little thin to me, and the vocals a little bit lower than I'm used to, but very nice mix.

Thanks man.
Thats my style of drums. Punchy, cracky and shimmering, rather than beefy low end. Ill look into the drums again. I could do with maybe boosting the vox a tad. I was trying to keep the energy of the guitars as I thought it suited this song.

I was thinking the distorted guitars are maybe a tad harsh, Ill have to check these again, maybe use a commercial mix for reference.

My trick for smoothing out distortion (apart from cutting a load of the high mids) was to add a good whack of reverb to the distorted right guitar. Brings depth to the guitar, and also gives a nice contrast to the other distorted guitar. A good deal of reverb gain automation was used on the right guitar.

Cheers,
Eck

Final Mix
Welp, here's my final mix. It's not really where I want it to be, but unfortunately I have a client to mix so this is where it ends for me. Good luck on all your mixes and thanks for the fun!

Woah! some dynamics at the start. :)
Overall tone is nice. Nice kick, not too much slap, although I like a tad more.
The distorted lead left guitar that plays that B note is a bit harsh.
I used a big cut on that guitar and also a multi band at that frequency to dull down that nasty B note!

Good mix man.

lol, sounds like all your mixes, though id put a de-esser on the lead vox, it sounds a bit sibilant to me...

oh, and here is another of my mixes, with this one i tried to give it the feel of an early black sabbath song =)

ive heard alot more sibilance on commercial releases. Ill still look into it though.

Yours sounds like a Sabbath mix with "the digital age" thin distorted guitars, which is cool. Pity it doesn't suit the song. :)
Vocals sound very smooth, kick sounds like 5 week old minced beef. :P

Definitely not mono. Your desk is playing tricks :p

I Just installed the new msn messenger...it screwed everything...havin another listen now, sorry about that :o

sounds much better. the music all sounds good, bass could maybe be a little more defined for my ears it gets lost in the mix in places and the vocals sound quite hot in places but this is definately one of the better ones I've listened too.

I said before I was gonna give this one a week to see how many more mixes come in then I'll do a strip down of each one piece by piece hell I might even throw up another one of my own if anyone other than eck has any dislikes about it :D

I should have something for you all to flame by tomorrow :D

I sooooo don't know what I'm doing :o

Just listened to Ek's mix and it sounds sooooo much better than my mess :(

I can't hear the kick till the chugging guitar drops out and when it comes in it sounds like someone dribbling a basketball

The reverb on the vox make them sound like the band played in the livingroom while the singer was in an arena across the street.

Great bass sound, am really digging that. Did you use the hats mic in the mix or are they from the overheads and snare spillage?

Balance and levels sound good to me but definite EQ issues

Eck,

Not a bad mix. It seems a bit harsh in the high mids, and lacking much bottom to it at all. Interesting take on the song, you'll be fighting a bit of an uphill battle taking it to a bit more "polished and produced" sound, as we recorded it with the "warm, natural, open, and raw" sound in mind, but It sounds like you may be able to pull it off with a bit of work.

Yeah, I was going for the "polished and produced" sound: less low mids, persent high mids and highs and deep but controlled low end.
I personnaly prefer mixes this way rather than having to many low mids. I have still left a nice amount of low mids in the guitars for a warm kinda Smashing Pumpkins feel.
I am in the process of adding more lows but I feel this song really doesn't need much more than I put on already.

Thanks for your comments, really appreciate them.

Eck
