Snare Top Mic & Snare Bottom Mic Through The Same RNC?

i'd like to "kiss" my snare with an RNC to keep it under control. i'm wondering, is it a bad idea to send the top and bottom mics through the same RNC (like overheads)? internally, the RNC is two separate compression channels, with just one set of controls, right? so the two signals shouldn't trigger each others gain reduction, right? (does this question make sense?)

I would expect that they would average each other to get a common control picture from both. In that case the mic with the most signal level might dominate, not sure if that would matter though.

Wait. If you're asking if each will control separately -no.

yeah, i wouldn't have separate controls. but i'm using independent preamps on both mics, so i can bypass the RNC, and make the levels identical (according to the software meters). then engage the RNC, and dial in some light compression. then i just use the software faders to balance the two separate tracks in the software to my liking. that would be the plan, anyway. but like you said, i'm wondering if the two signals would trigger the compression differently, and one would dominate. basically, i'm looking to get the same sound as light compression on both signals with different compressors without having to purchase another RNC.

Why not just record at the proper level and not worry about it?
