Holier than thou
I'm getting alot of buzz or hum from my condenser mic. I'm using a simple setup. Boss BR600 recorder, Alesis Multimix6 mixing board, a Berringer b-5 condenser, and berringer ms40 monitors. I've noticed that I don't get the hum with sm-58's. Only when I turn phantom power on, and use the condenser. I'm not at all sure how to fix this. Any ideas?

I'm no engineer by far, but i would gather that the problem wouldnt be with the mic, but with the equipment down the signal chain; either the BR600 recorder, or the Alesis Multimix6 mixing board. Only having the problem w/ the phantom power makes me think that the 48v phantom power is creating interference causing the buzz. If you can, try using a different unit or pre in place of the mixer and see if it continues?

I have a BR-600 and it has balanced inputs for dynamic microphones. The only thing you should be using the Mackie board for is to provide phantom power for the condenser mic and I'm not sure you can turn the Alesis microphone preamps down far enough to get out of the way, so to speak. The source of the buzzing is almost certainly from sending the Behringer condenser mic through two preamps.

One of these --- LINK --- will probably solve your problem.

Thanks guys. I'm going to mess around with it today and see what I come up with. If nothing prevails, I must break down and spend some cash.
