I still have a couple tracks and some serious mixing ahead of me. This is very rough.

Should I bother finishing it, or shitcan the whole thing?

yes, finish it - it's a good start & a fair bit of work has already been invested.

I just played this a few weekends ago at a birthday party. I prefer a slower tempo where you can buckle polish....lol. The harmonies throughout are a good idea - fill up the tune nicely. The mix is good so far, I would maybe add some country licks to spice it up a bit. What are you using for a vocal mic/preamp/effects?

I've got two more guitar tracks to add in there (the G arpeggio), but I may settle for one stereo track.

I'm not much of a guitar player (bass is my instrument), so if you want to add to this... I am looking for a steel guitar/lap steel something...

The mic is a Japanese Audio Technica Pro 100. It's the only mic I own right now...:o

I run that through a Yamaha MG10/2 into the Fostex MR-8. All the effects are Reaper.

Sure, finish it. The music is fine as is. The vocals are out of pitch in areas so you would want to re-track those and leave the Chorus effect off of them for SURE.:p Play around with some verbs on the vocals until you find one that makes it sit right.

I'm listening to the original right now on Napster and the electric guitars have a phase on them and the vocal is treated with what sounds like a Vocal Plate Reverb.

There is also a steel guitar in the original that makes the song work. You might want to throw some slide or volume swell parts in there to make up for that.

Just my observation.

I see we were thinking alike...:)
