My Turn...my Turn..!!!!

I was wondering if its possible that anyone could mix this song for me. I did a pretty rough mix myself and I want to compare it to some other people.

i don't think i did as good a job as others, but it would be awesome if i could get some constructive criticism!!!!

MY ATTEMPT

Odd........ I cut all the lows, and didn't compress them......Distorted guitars are pretty compressed to start with........

i was joking, because thats what he told me to do... i guess it wasnt funny. i cut them lows aswell so they dont sound so mudy and give the bass room.

That is bizzare!!! It sounds like the vocals are coming from my ceiling!?!?!?!??!???????

Is it in mono? You could try panning things out a bit. The Sound quality isn't bad, but everything is stacked in the middle.

I've got crappy speakers. REALLY crappy. I'm at college and have like $20 PC speakers with excessive bass.

I also haven't really figured out what panning/widening works well. I haven't mixed anything in a couple months.

I was just trying to get the tones and levels right. I know it's not really a complete mix, but I'm kind of limited, I'm not even going to try.

I had a really hard time with the "Garret" guitar in the intro that hits twice before it comes in with the riff. I don't know why, I just could NOT get that thing to sound right. The recording quality isn't GREAT, but still I don't know why I can't get it.

This has been a very interesting thread for me. NL5, very cool write up about how you approached this task. I like how I can hear each different take on the tune and the varied outcome. Combined with the comments, I find it quite informative.

Does this happen very often where a member posts raw tracks and others take a stab at mixing them? In the brief time I've been a member, I don't think I've seen this before.

I'm currently working on a tune that I'm finding very hard to mix. I don't have anyone in my peer-group that does home recording, so a forum like this is one of the only ways I get second opinions and guidance. If some of you are interesting is doing the same exercise, how do you recommend sharing the raw tracks? As they stand now, they are 24bit gargantuan size files.

Anyway, I hope to see more threads like this one.

Hey - if you have fast internet, PM me, and I will set you up an FTP account you can upload the files to.

Thanks for the offer, but I actually ok. I've got an ISP account with my own domain and pleny of storage. I'm more concerned with packaging the files. The poster used a rar file format, that isn't familiar to me. Is it another flavor of zip?

Thanks for offering. I'll send you a PM with some questions and other odds and end.

We do contests all the time. Usually the files all start at the same time, so they can easily be pulled into any project - like jndietz did - and they are usually zipped.........

Some of the playing gets a little scrambked but man, awesome hard ass rock tune guys. SHould be putting a mix up in a few.
