Greg's pipeline post got me all fired up. :D
https://homerecording.com/bbs/showthread.php?t=248402

I went back and listened to some of my fav surf instrumentals that I recorded several years ago.

My recording skills have improved since they were recorded but I just wanted to post a couple of the best ones for those that like this sort of thing.

Just wanted to share.
I should re-do them some day before I forget how to play them all.

Edit: here's another one, a very different type of surf tune.

Edit Again:
Here's a quickie tune I wrote, under 2 minutes run time.
I used an octavia/fuzz sound, it's called OctaFuzzy

Freaking excellent man!

"Bumble Bee" is perfect!

Is "Cruel Sea" an original? I don't recognize it but sounds great. :)

Great stuff, really enjoyed the listen.....both Cruel Sea & Bumble bee twist have some great playing!! Especially liked the guitar lines about 1:00 min into cruel sea! Pretty fast pickin' on the melody of Bumble Twist...nice!
What kind of setup did you use for these?

No, the Cruel Sea is an oldie but I don't know who wrote it.

I heard it on a Ventures album many yeas ago.

But as in most of the Ventures stuff, they just did covers of the original tunes, but they did them awesome, better than the original artist in most cases, IMO.

For example, I love Jorgen Ingmanns' Apache version which is th first Apache I ever remember hearing but i love what the Ventures did with Apache.

If you want a ripping laugh sometime, go to you-tube and search on Apache,
Check out all the hilarious disco versions that appeared in the 70's.
Especially the one with the chicks dressed up in buckskins and the ban is playing in an out field.

I'll try and find the link, you will get a hoot out that video.

see ya

Vari,
Most of that stuff was done on a hand made tube amp combo that I built many years ago.

It's a Fender combo circuit with a 3 spring reverb circuit. The amp is 2 x10 combo around 40+ watts.
It plays very tight like a Twin reverb so it's great for surf stuff which does not have much distortion or breakup to the notes usually.

I have a 1965 Fender Vibrolux Reverb but it breaks up too soon for the surf stuff.

Here's real trippy version of The 11th hour I did.

Greg, having a listen to your walk don't run.
Very nice version, I like it. You had some good tone on the guitar.

I like Hammerhead also. i think I remember listening to that when you posted it originally here. It's a great surf tune and sounds like it should be used in a movie.

I can picture two guys have a surf off on a california beach while Hammerhead rages! :D

Here's that link to the Apache video on you tube.
check this out, it is hilarious!

The band members are pretty dorky but the chicks are actually pretty hot!
Check out the keyboard guy!
Actually, the band seems to be embarased to have to play behind the keyboard guy.

Nice....these are some fun tunes. Thanks man....:D

Great sound EL34 - Bumble Bee has me ridin' the waves today!:)

Thanks Ido,
I remember that I was out of practice at the time I did that one. My right arm was not up to the task and so the stuccato picking is not as good as it should be.
I used to be able to do Dick Dale fast picking all day long, now it hurts like hell and I end up with muscle cramps if I try and do it too much. :D
I'm out of practice on the Dick Dale picking stuff.

Sort of in the strange Surf/guitar instrumental category.
It has cartoonish\Flintstones type feet ruuning drums sounds.

Hey Polska, those are both cool tunes.
Not familiar with those, are they yours?

I found this on The Cruel Sea. A 1965 Japan performance. Man the tempo is crazy on this~!:D

Bumble Bee was excellent....but Surfing with Squirrels really floated my boat!! Is that a song of yours EL?...I've not heard that one.

Hey True,
Surfing with the squirrels is supposed to be the album title on the mp3.
Did I get the mp3 tag info messed up?

Not sure what tune you were listening to?
